The venue combined older-style terraces and later concrete stands, reflecting successive renovations. By the time it closed the officially reported capacity was 27,650, and the playing surface was natural grass. Facilities were modest compared with contemporary multi-use arenas, which was one reason club leadership chose to replace it with a more modern complex.

History and development

Originally developed in the early 1900s as a dedicated football ground, the stadium grew alongside the club that began as a community of Italian immigrants. Over the decades it hosted countless state and national league fixtures and served as a focal point for fan culture. The popular nickname Parque Antártica derived from a nearby brewery and commercial association.

Uses and cultural importance

Beyond league matches, the ground was a venue for regional competitions, club celebrations and community events. For many supporters it symbolised the club's roots and continuity. Matches held there often carried strong local significance and contributed to the stadium's reputation as a traditional and atmospheric site for Brazilian football.

Demolition and legacy

In 2010 the stadium was demolished to permit construction of a new, multi-purpose arena on the same footprint. The replacement project aimed to provide modern spectator comforts, improved safety and expanded commercial uses, reflecting broader trends in stadium development. The old ground remains important in the club's history and in collective memory, frequently recalled in fan media, histories and commemorations.
