David Nobbs — English comedy writer and novelist

Career and major works

Nobbs began writing professionally at a time when British television and radio comedy were evolving rapidly. He wrote novels and produced scripts that explored the tensions and contradictions of middle-class life. His most famous creation, Reginald Perrin, started as a series of novels and was adapted by Nobbs into a television series that mixed sharp satire of corporate and domestic life with surreal moments. The character and series remain a touchstone for British workplace comedy.
