Geography and communities
Warwick covers a mix of upland farmland, forested hills and water bodies. Greenwood Lake, which straddles the New York–New Jersey line, is one of the better known features. The town contains three incorporated villages and several unincorporated hamlets, each with a distinct character:
- Village of Warwick — the historic downtown and commercial hub.
- Village of Florida — a smaller village with rural surroundings.
- Village of Greenwood Lake — lakeside neighborhood focused on boating and tourism.
- Hamlets such as Pine Island and others, notable for farms and orchards.
History and development
The area was settled in the colonial era and developed as an agricultural community. Over the 19th and 20th centuries, farms, small mills and local commerce shaped its economy. Road improvements and recreational travel gradually increased visitor activity, while many village centers retained historic architecture and a small-town feel.
Economy, culture and events
Agriculture remains important, with orchards, vineyards and dairy farms prominent in the landscape. Cultural life centers on local shops, restaurants, galleries and seasonal events. One of the town's best-known celebrations draws large crowds each autumn to celebrate the harvest, local food and crafts.
Recreation and notable features
Outdoor recreation is a major attraction: boating, fishing and lakeside activities at Greenwood Lake, plus hiking and scenic drives in fall foliage. The town is also a popular weekend destination for visitors from the larger New York–New Jersey region who seek rural scenery, farmers' markets and small-town festivals.
Government and identity
Warwick is administered by a town government that coexists with the three village governments; public services and schools are organized through a mix of municipal and regional arrangements. The town is often noted for preserving a rural character while offering accessible cultural and recreational amenities.
