Breakthrough and prime-time success

Lamas achieved mainstream fame for his long-running role as Lance Cumson on the prime-time soap opera Falcon Crest (1981–1990). The parts he played on that series placed him in the center of the show’s family and business conflicts and made him a staple of 1980s television. Falcon Crest was part of a wave of glossy, serialized dramas that defined network evening programming in that decade; Lamas’s presence there established his image as a leading man for serialized storytelling.

Action television and later roles

After Falcon Crest, Lamas moved toward action-oriented work and starred as Reno Raines on the syndicated series Renegade (1992–1997), playing a framed bounty hunter seeking justice. That show emphasized physicality, episodic adventure and an antihero lead, and it consolidated Lamas’s association with genre television. He later returned to soap opera formats in recurring and contract roles, including the character Hector Ramirez on The Bold and the Beautiful (2004–2006).

Range, other work and public profile

Beyond his best-known television parts, Lamas has appeared in feature films, made-for-television movies and guest roles on a variety of series. He has worked in both dramatic and action contexts, and has occasionally performed on stage. Throughout his career he has alternated between long-running series and single-episode appearances, a pattern common among television actors who maintain visibility across decades.

Notable roles and legacy

  • Lance Cumson — Falcon Crest (prime-time soap lead)
  • Reno Raines — Renegade (syndicated action series lead)
  • Hector Ramirez — The Bold and the Beautiful (daytime soap recurring role)

Lamas’s career is often cited as illustrative of a performer who successfully navigated the transition from 1980s network soaps to 1990s syndicated action fare, maintaining a recognizable screen persona while taking on different genres. He remains a reference point for discussions of television stars who found enduring work through genre versatility and the sustained popularity of serialized programming.
