Joseph Michael Straczynski (born July 17, 1954) is an American writer, producer and commentator whose work spans television, comics, film and prose. He is widely recognized as the creator and primary writer of the science fiction television series Babylon 5, and he has written for mainstream comic-book publishers as well as for his own creator-owned projects. He was born in Paterson, New Jersey and studied at San Diego State University. He was married to Kathryn M. Drennan from 1983 until their divorce in 2008.
