Geography and climate

The landscape is predominantly flat and crisscrossed by rivers and irrigation canals typical of the delta plain. The climate is tropical monsoon, with warm, wet summers and cooler, drier winters, supporting intensive wet-rice cultivation as well as vegetable and aquaculture production.

History and development

Hà Nam has deep rural roots and a history shaped by rice farming, village life and local craftsmanship. Over the 20th and early 21st centuries it experienced administrative changes and industrialization like many Red River Delta provinces, with expansions of small towns and the establishment of industrial parks to attract manufacturing and investment.

Economy and transport

Agriculture remains important, complemented by manufacturing, services and tourism. The province benefits from major north–south transportation routes — highways and rail lines that facilitate trade and commuting to Hanoi — and from local markets and emerging industrial zones that employ rural workers.

Culture, tourism and notable sites

Cultural life centers on village festivals, temples and pagodas. One prominent destination is the Tam Chúc pagoda complex, a large Buddhist site that draws pilgrims and visitors. Traditional crafts and local cuisine also contribute to cultural tourism.
