Marina Charlotte Kalla (born 22 July 1987) is a Swedish athlete best known for her career in cross-country skiing. Born in Tärendö in northern Sweden, she rose through junior ranks to become one of Sweden's most prominent skiers during the 2000s and 2010s. Kalla combined endurance, tactical sense and a strong finishing speed, attributes that brought success in distance races, stage events and relays.

Early life and development

Kalla grew up in a small community where skiing is an everyday activity and entered organized competition in her youth. She progressed through national development programs and made her senior international debut in the 2003–2004 season. Early experience across classic and freestyle techniques allowed her to adapt to varied courses and conditions.

Competitive career and achievements

Throughout her career Kalla collected numerous World Cup podiums and became a familiar presence at major championships. She won the second edition of the Tour de Ski on 6 January 2008, a demanding multi-stage event that highlights consistency and recovery. At the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2009 in Liberec, Czech Republic, she earned a bronze medal as part of Sweden's women's 4 × 5 kilometre relay team. Beyond those highlights, she registered multiple individual victories and contributed to Sweden's relay successes over many seasons.

Clubs, professional moves and later career

Kalla represented national teams and domestic clubs; on 6 May 2012 she signed with the club Piteå Elit for the 2012/2013 season, linking up with a strong Swedish program. She continued to compete at a high level into the early 2020s, adapting her preparation and race tactics as the international field evolved.

Retirement and legacy

On 22 March 2022 Charlotte Kalla announced that she would end her competitive career following the Swedish Championships in Piteå. Her longevity, versatility across distances and contributions to relay teams have made her an influential figure in Swedish skiing. Kalla is widely regarded as an inspiration for young athletes from northern Sweden and beyond, and her results helped maintain Sweden's profile in women's cross-country skiing.
