History and name

The borough takes its name from British General Edward Braddock (1695–1755), who was mortally wounded during the 1755 Battle of the Monongahela fought nearby during the French and Indian War. Braddock later grew into a manufacturing center in the late 1800s and early 1900s, driven by coal, iron, and steel producing operations located along the river.
