Roger Hunt, MBE (20 July 1938 – 27 September 2021), was an English professional footballer who made his name as a forward in the late 1950s and 1960s. Renowned for his intelligent movement, clinical finishing and tireless work-rate, he spent eleven years at Liverpool and became one of the club's most celebrated strikers of that era. Hunt was also a member of the England national team that won the 1966 FIFA World Cup, appearing in every match of the tournament and contributing three goals.
Early career and club football
Hunt emerged into senior football in the late 1950s and quickly established a reputation as a dependable goal-scorer. He joined Liverpool in that period and played a central role as the club rose from the lower divisions back to the top tier under manager Bill Shankly.
