Career and offices

Trained as a lawyer, Enrile was appointed to top government positions in the 1960s and 1970s, becoming one of the most influential members of the Marcos administration. His official responsibilities included overseeing law enforcement and national defense at a time of armed conflict and political unrest. In later decades he was elected repeatedly to the Senate, where he occupied leadership posts and chaired important committees.
