The Province of Pesaro and Urbino (Italian: Provincia di Pesaro e Urbino) is a province located in the northern part of the Marche region of Italy. Its administrative capital is the city of Pesaro.
Overview
The province stretches from the Adriatic coastline into an interior dominated by rolling hills and small valleys. Because of this combination of seaside resorts and hilly terrain it is sometimes called the "Riviera of Hills". Settlement is concentrated along the coast and in a number of historic hill towns inland.
Culture and notable places
Besides Pesaro, which is known for its musical tradition, the province contains Urbino, an important Renaissance center whose historic core is recognized for its artistic and architectural heritage. Visitors are drawn to museums, historic churches and the general legacy of Renaissance culture found in several towns.
Economy and tourism
The local economy mixes tourism, agriculture and light industry. Coastal resorts along the Adriatic attract beachgoers in summer, while the inland hills support vineyards, olive groves and agritourism. Small artisanal and manufacturing enterprises are also part of the economic landscape.
