Ñuble Province (Chile, 1974–2018)

Geography and subdivisions

Ñuble Province covered a broad area of south-central Chile and ranked among the larger provinces within the Bío Bío Region. It was often described as the second province in area in the region (after the contiguous Bío Bío province) and, by population, it was also second only to the Concepción province. The provincial territory was organized into a number of communes (municipalities) centered on Chillán and its surrounding towns.
