Funding and technical challenges, together with changing commercial priorities, limited these efforts and the Wardenclyffe project was never completed at the intended scale.

Tesla was involved in priority disputes common to the era of rapid electrical innovation; the history of early radio and other inventions includes disputes and legal decisions that have been reassessed by historians. He was noted for prolific patenting as well as for an occasionally difficult relationship to business and finance, which affected commercial development of some of his ideas. In later life he became known for eccentric habits and public demonstrations of his high-voltage experiments.
Death and legacy
Tesla died in New York City in 1943. Over subsequent decades his technical contributions gained broad recognition. The magnetic flux density unit in the SI system was named the tesla in his honor. His name and image have appeared in popular culture, literature, and the names of companies and institutions. Many historians and engineers regard him as a central figure in the age of electrification whose inventive work helped make modern power systems possible.
