Geography and environment

Međimurje lies between the Mura to the north and the Drava to the south, forming broad floodplain plains with rich alluvial soils. The Drava has been regulated along parts of its course and hosts significant reservoir lakes. Two important artificial lakes on the Drava are Lake Varaždin and Lake Dubrava; the latter is the largest artificial lake in Croatia and among the country’s largest lakes overall.
