Geography and environment

Mannar lies within Sri Lanka's dry zone, featuring flat coastal plains, sandy shores and sparse thorn-scrub vegetation. The district includes Mannar Island, linked to the mainland by causeways and bridges, and stretches to shallow offshore shoals.
