The collection includes masterpieces by artists such as Albrecht Dürer, Lucas Cranach, Hans Holbein, Rogier van der Weyden, Jan van Eyck, Raphael, Sandro Botticelli, Titian, Caravaggio, Peter Paul Rubens, Rembrandt and Jan Vermeer. The Picture Gallery was opened in 1830. Its current building was completed in 1998 and is part of the Kulturforum. The collection in its present form is the result of an ambitious two-hundred-year collecting policy. One of the highlights of the exhibition is the wings of the Wurzach Altar by Hans Multscher. In 2019, the Gemäldegalerie recorded 310,000 visitors, not least thanks to the special exhibition Mantegna and Bellini.
