M50 is a short motorway located in South West England. It runs east–west between the M5 and the area near Ross-on-Wye, serving as a direct high-speed link across a largely rural part of the country.

Route and connections

The route begins at a junction with the M5 and continues toward Ross-on-Wye, carrying traffic across several counties. As a motorway, it provides a faster alternative to smaller A-roads for long-distance traffic in this corridor.

Regional role

Together with the A40 and A449, the M50 forms part of a primary road corridor connecting the West Midlands with South Wales. It is commonly used by drivers travelling between these regions and by freight vehicles avoiding more congested routes.

Length and characteristics

  • Length: about 22 miles (35 km).
  • Predominantly two lanes in each direction with standard motorway features.
