Geography and landscape

The district includes the lower Tyrolean Inn valley and several side valleys and basins such as the Alpbach valley, the Brandenberg valley, Wildschönau and the Thiersee area. From the valley floors the terrain rises quickly into prominent mountain groups. These include the Brandenberg Alps, the Kitzbühel Alps and the dramatic peaks of the Kaisergebirge. Elevation changes create a varied landscape of meadows, forests and steep rock faces.
