Unicode contains the Ü/ü at the code points U+00DC (upper case) and U+00FC (lower case). It occupies the same positions in ISO 8859-1.
In TeX, the Ü can be inserted in text typesetting with the commands \"U and \"u and in graphics typesetting with \ddot U and \ddot u. With the package german.sty or with the package babel the input of the German umlauts to "a, "o and "u is simplified. By specifying a suitable option for the inputenc package, it is also possible to enter the umlauts directly in text mode.
In groff, the Ü can be generated with \[:U] and the ü with \[:u].
In HTML there are the named characters Ü for the capital Ü and ü for the small ü.
Under Windows you can also enter the capital Ü by the combination Alt+154, the small ü by the combination Alt+129.
With automatic text recognition, especially without special support, it is often recognized as ii.
