Origins and early development

The company was founded in 1945 (founding) and conducted its first scheduled service in January 1946 to neighboring Syria. During the 1950s and 1960s the airline acquired more capable aircraft and in the 1960s introduced its first jet airliners (jet introduction), allowing longer routes and increased capacity.
