Overview

The iPhone 11 Pro is a premium smartphone introduced by Apple in September 2019 and released on September 20, 2019. It arrived alongside the larger iPhone 11 Pro Max as the higher-end alternatives to the previous year’s iPhone XS and XS Max, whose line it effectively replaced in Apple's lineup (iPhone XS). Apple marketed the 11 Pro series to users who sought the company’s most advanced cameras, display technology, and build materials available at the time.

Design and display

The 11 Pro models feature a stainless steel frame and a textured matte glass back, a departure from the aluminum used on the lower-cost iPhone 11. The Pro is available in four finishes: gold, silver, space gray and a new "midnight green" introduced with this generation. Two sizes were offered: the iPhone 11 Pro (5.8-inch) and the iPhone 11 Pro Max (6.5-inch), both equipped with Apple’s Super Retina XDR OLED panels that deliver higher contrast and peak brightness compared with prior models.

Camera system

A defining characteristic of the 11 Pro is its triple-lens rear camera array. The system combines three distinct optics—ultra wide, wide (main), and telephoto—allowing a range of focal lengths and more flexible composition without external accessories. Software features such as Night mode, Smart HDR improvements and computational photography enhancements (for example Deep Fusion introduced in iOS updates) improved low-light and mid-to-low light image detail. Video capabilities were upgraded as well, including high-resolution 4K capture across the cameras and enhanced dynamic range for more cinematic results.

Performance, storage and battery

Powered by Apple’s A13 Bionic system-on-chip, the iPhone 11 Pro emphasized both single-thread and multi-thread performance for apps, gaming and photography processing. Storage configurations included several tiers to suit different user needs. Apple also improved battery life over the previous XS line, with the Pro models offering longer real-world usage and support for faster charging. Unlike some earlier iPhone shipments, the 11 Pro packaged an 18-watt USB-C power adapter and a USB-C–to–Lightning cable for fast charging out of the box.
