This article gives an overview of the main characters of the Star Wars universe, whose history began with the 1977 motion picture Star Wars (original English title: Star Wars). Creator of Star Wars is the screenwriter, producer and director George Lucas.

At its core, Star Wars currently consists of three film trilogies: The Original Trilogy, which, in addition to Star Wars (Episode IV), includes The Empire Strikes Back (1980, Episode V) and Return of the Jedi Knights (1983, Episode VI); the Prequel Trilogy, set in the time before the Original Trilogy, with the films The Dark Menace (1999, Episode I), Attack of the Clones (2002, Episode II), and Revenge of the Sith (2005, Episode III); and finally, the sequel trilogy that followed the original trilogy in terms of content, beginning in 2015 with The Force Awakens (Episode VII) and continuing in 2017 with The Last Jedi (Episode VIII). The Rise of Skywalker (Episode IX) concluded this trilogy in 2019.

In addition, several spin-offs officially marketed as A Star Wars Story exist. These are grouped together in this article under the term Anthology. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which was released in 2016, falls under these. In May 2018, Solo: A Star Wars Story was released, the second film in this series, which has its storyline apart from the main trilogies.

The term Expanded Universe is used in the Star Wars context to refer to all licensed Star Wars materials outside of the theatrical films. The Expanded Universe includes books, comic books, games, and other media that expand upon the stories told in the films. The expansion of the Star Wars universe began in 1978, and the Expanded Universe changed dramatically when Disney acquired the Star Wars brand in 2012. In late April 2014, Disney announced that the former Expanded Universe was no longer part of the official canon and would continue independently under the collectible name Legends. The Star Wars canon henceforth includes the theatrical films, the Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels series, and all (with few exceptions) other Star Wars media released and re-released as of April 2014. New Star Wars releases will be developed in cooperation with the so-called Lucasfilm Story Group in order to maintain continuity between the individual works.

Listed below are the most important characters of the Star Wars universe. The focus is on the movies and series. Appearances in novels, comics and video games or characters from these media are not listed unless they have a significant place in the plot of Star Wars. Significant and popular characters and appearances in the uncanonical stories are listed finally under the collective term Legends. The birth and death dates given in some cases are based on the fictional Galactic Timeline, which divides events in the Star Wars universe into two eras: the years leading up to the Battle of Yavin (VSY) and after the Battle of Yavin (NSY). In the Battle of Yavin, the first Death Star was destroyed by Luke Skywalker at the end of Star Wars (Episode IV).

Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader

Appearances as Anakin

Appearances as Darth Vader

  • Episodes: III, IV, V, VI, IX (voice-over).
  • Anthology: Rogue One
  • Series: The Clone Wars, Rebels, Obi-Wan Kenobi

Anakin Skywalker (* 41 VSY on Tatooine; † 4 NSY on the 2nd Death Star over Endor) was a Jedi Knight trained by Obi-Wan Kenobi. He was considered the chosen one of an ancient Jedi prophecy and was supposed to restore the balance of the Force. He later became Darth Vader, a Sith and - even within his own ranks - feared servant of the Emperor. The first six films in the series deal specifically with Anakin's turning away from the light side and his turning to the dark side of the Force and his eventual redemption. He was the father of Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa. Anakin was a slave boy who was forced to work for a junk dealer named Watto on Tatooine until he was nine years old. As the son of the slave Shmi Skywalker, he had been born into slavery. According to his mother, Anakin has no father ("I carried him, gave birth to him, raised him. I don't know what happened.").

During the crisis on Naboo, he was found and freed from slavery by the Jedi Qui-Gon Jinn. The latter recognized his talent and examined his Midi Chlorian value (way to measure the strength of the Force in a person via a blood sample), where it turned out that he had an even higher potential than the Jedi Master Yoda. By this time, Qui-Gon already suspected that Anakin was the chosen one who would bring balance to the Force. Before the Jedi High Council, he proposed Anakin for training as a Jedi. The Council tested Anakin, but would not approve Qui-Gon's request. Anakin was already too old to start the training and he could hardly keep his feelings under control because of the separation from his mother. But when Qui-Gon was killed by the Sith Lord Darth Maul on Naboo and his student Obi-Wan was raised to the rank of Jedi Knight, he took over Anakin's training - with the reluctant approval of the Jedi Council.

Anakin was very talented in the use of the Force during his training and often surpassed even Obi-Wan with his intuition. However, he also showed troubling traits: he frequently disobeyed Obi-Wan's orders, often acting in an unrestrained and emotional manner, putting himself and others in danger. When his mother Shmi died in captivity in a Tusken raider camp, he killed all the Tusken raiders in his rage, including the women and children. He blamed Obi-Wan for not taking him seriously and holding him back in his training. During a duel with Darth Tyranus, in which he again failed to control his emotions, Anakin lost his right hand and forearm, which were replaced with a prosthetic. Anakin and Padmé Amidala fell in love and were married in secret on the planet Naboo. In the animated series The Clone Wars, he trained a Padawan student named Ahsoka Tano.

Three years later, Padmé became pregnant. Anakin and she kept this a secret, however, because it was forbidden for Jedi to have relationships, and Anakin would have been expelled from the Jedi Order otherwise.

Anakin had been made a Jedi Knight during the Clone Wars. Since then, Obi-Wan was no longer his Master, and their relationship developed into that of brothers. Anakin also built an increasingly trusting relationship with Palpatine, the Supreme Chancellor of the Republic. At this point, no one knew that he was also the Sith Lord Darth Sidious, who had instigated the war between the Republic and Separatists in his favor. He also saw great potential in Anakin and manipulated him to later seduce him to the dark side. Anakin had visions of Padmé's death several times, and to save her, he took Palpatine up on an offer of help, who also convinced him that the Jedi were planning a violent overthrow. When Jedi Master Mace Windu first tried to arrest Palpatine, then kill him in a supposedly defenseless state, Anakin, believing he needed Palpatine to save Padme, cut off his right hand, and Palpatine killed him with his Force bolts. As a result, Anakin was given the name Darth Vader.

As Darth Vader, he killed hundreds of Jedi and Padawans he saw as traitors on behalf of Darth Sidious, assassinated Separatist leaders on the planet Mustafar, and strangled his pregnant wife Padmé into unconsciousness, stunned by his actions. He then fought his old master Obi-Wan, losing his other, non-mechanical hand and both legs. Already badly injured, he also sustained severe burns all over his body when his clothes caught fire from flowing lava. Obi-Wan could not bring himself to save him, nor kill him, leaving Darth Vader dying. He survived nonetheless, Darth Sidious found him, and as part of a life-saving operation, he was fitted with black armor that included a mask with an integrated beaming device and cybernetic limbs. The battle suit became his vital equipment from that point on.

Having lost most of his limbs, Vader not only had to change his preferred lightsaber fighting style, but also suffered from severe pain every day. As the Emperor's right-hand man and because of his brutality, Vader was feared even within his own ranks. Still, serving on his flagship, the Executor, was considered a sure career stepping stone. In the wake of the Galactic Empire, into which the Republic had been transformed, fighting the Rebel Alliance, Vader became the enforcer of Emperor Palpatine's will. He failed to retrieve the plans of the 1st Death Star captured by Rebel spies in time, but nevertheless, with the help of the Imperial Moff Tarkin, he tracked down the Rebel Alliance base on Yavin IV shortly thereafter. However, the Death Star - a superweapon with which he attempted to destroy the moon - was destroyed by Luke Skywalker.

In a retaliatory strike for the destruction of the Death Star, the Rebel base on Yavin IV was overrun by Imperial forces. Vader pursued the fleeing Rebels halfway across the galaxy, eventually hiding on the ice planet of Hoth. But even here, he found them with the help of spy probes. Vader commanded a ground assault to destroy the base. Although the Rebel defenses were breached, many escaped using transport ships. To persuade his son Luke to turn to the dark side of the Force, he captured Han Solo and Leia Organa on Bespin. Luke, trying to free his friends, walked into the trap and had to confront Vader. In the course of the ensuing confrontation, Vader revealed to Luke that he was his father. In this fight, Luke lost his right arm, but resisted Vader's attempt to make him fall away from the light side of the Force, and was able to escape from him by running away.

When the rebels launched an attack on the second Death Star of the Empire, Vader met Luke again. He now wanted to save his father from the dark side, but was brought to the Emperor by him. But also Vader's master did not succeed in convincing Luke of the necessity of turning to the dark side. When the Emperor was finally about to kill Luke aboard the second Death Star, Vader turned on the Emperor, killing him and saving Luke. He died still on the spot in his son's arms and with his helmet off from his injuries from fighting Luke and the Emperor. He recommitted to the light side of the Force in his last breaths, allowing him to become one with the Force like Obi-Wan Kenobi and Master Yoda - contrary to how the prophecy had been interpreted, he was able to restore balance to the Force. His body was taken to Endor by Luke and burned there, along with his armor.

Anakin Skywalker was portrayed by Jake Lloyd in Episode I, Hayden Christensen in Episodes II and III, and bodybuilder David Prowse as Darth Vader in Episodes IV-VI, but the face under the mask in Episode VI is that of Sebastian Shaw. The voice in the original is that of James Earl Jones. The unmistakable breathing sound was produced during filming with a diver's regulator.

Bob Anderson, a British fencer and actor, choreographed the fencing matches for the original Star Wars films (1976-1983), among others, performing them in the Darth Vader costume for the film itself.

In the anthology film Rogue One, Spencer Wilding and Daniel Naprous took on the visual portrayal of Darth Vader, with Jones again doing the dubbing.

In the 2004 DVD re-release of the original trilogy (Episodes IV through VI), Shaw was digitally replaced by Christensen in the final scene of the deceased Jedi Masters.

The German dubbing voice of Darth Vader was Heinz Petruo, who died on November 12, 2001. In Episode III and in the series Rebels Reiner Schöne took over the dubbing. In Rogue One: A Star Wars Story he was voiced by Martin Kautz. The German dubbing voice of Anakin Skywalker is Wanja Gerick. In Episode VI, Anakin was voiced by Horst Schön.

For his role as Anakin Skywalker, Jake Lloyd was nominated for the Saturn Award for Best New Actor in 2000. Hayden Christensen was nominated for Best Lead Actor in 2003 and 2005.

BB-8

Performances:

  • Episodes: VII, VIII, IX
  • Series: Resistance, The Powers That Be...

BB-8 was an astromech droid who served as Poe Dameron's co-pilot in his X-wing. The latter had taken possession of a map that led to the lost Jedi Luke Skywalker. Since the First Order was also searching for the map, Poe Dameron had to turn it over to BB-8. With the help of scrap collector Rey and deserted stormtrooper Finn, BB-8 was able to make his way to the Resistance and deliver the map. He then helped Poe Dameron fight the First Order forces.

C-3PO

Performances:

  • Episodes: I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX
  • Anthology: Rogue One
  • Series: The Clone Wars, Rebels, The Powers That Be (voice).

C-3PO was a droid, more specifically a humanoid robot programmed for protocol and translation. The droids of this model have an outer skin of shiny metal and a human-like physique.

C-3PO was assembled from parts by the young Anakin Skywalker, who was still missing the outer casing. On Tatooine, he met R2-D2 for the first time, who he later encountered more often. When Anakin left Tatooine, C-3PO remained in the possession of Anakin's mother. When she was ransomed from being a slave, C-3PO went with her to live with the Lars family, who lived near the town of Mos Eisley. After Anakin returned to Tatooine to rescue his mother, who had been kidnapped by Sand People, he took his droid with him. His golden shell was given to C-3PO when he became the property of Padmé Amidala and she was appointed Senator. When Anakin defected to the dark side of the Force and became Darth Vader, C-3PO entered the service of the Rebellion and his memory of his former life was erased so he could not reveal to anyone that Padmé, Anakin's wife, had borne two children before she died.

During the time of the Galactic Civil War, C-3PO and R2-D2 were involved in turning over the plans of the Death Star battle station to the Rebellion, which led to its destruction. On Bespin, C-3PO was shot by Imperial stormtroopers, but was able to be repaired by Chewbacca and R2. In the final battle against the Empire on Endor, C-3PO was worshipped as a deity by the local Ewoks, who later joined the fight against the Empire and contributed to the victory of the now-defeated Rebels.

During the New Republic era, C-3PO continued to serve Leia Organa and was an important part of the resistance in the fight against the First Order.

Later, he helped Chewbacca, Poe, Finn and Rey find an artifact that would show them the way to Exegol. When he deciphered a Sith message in the process and his programming prevented him from communicating its contents, his programming was reset when the mechanic Babu Frik on Kijimi accessed his data storage. However, with the help of R2-D2, he regained an old stored memory after the mission, but was unable to recall the incidents on Kijimi.

C-3PO was - in contrast to the courageous R2-D2 - the typical anti-hero. He talked a lot and quickly got on the nerves of his owners and companions, although he always acted out of pure caution and politeness. Along with R2-D2, C-3PO is one of the few characters to appear in all the films of the Star Wars saga. "They are the real heroes of the saga," as its creator George Lucas put it. Lucas modeled the characters C-3PO and R2-D2 after the crooks Tahei and Matashichi from Akira Kurosawa's Hidden Fortress, which served the author to use a certain storytelling technique from the paired characters' point of view.

C-3PO was portrayed by Anthony Daniels. His German voice actor in the prequel trilogy was Wolfgang Ziffer, in the classic trilogy (IV-VI) as well as the sequel trilogy (VII-IX) he was voiced by Joachim Tennstedt.

C-3PO was designed by illustrator Ralph McQuarrie, who based his design on the Maria (HEL) from Metropolis.

Chewbacca

Performances:

  • Episodes: III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX.
  • Anthology: Solo
  • Series: The Clone Wars, The Powers That Be...

Chewbacca (* 200 VSY on Kashyyyk) (nicknamed Chewie) is the co-pilot and friend of Han Solo. He is a member of the Wookiee race, characterized by a striking height (2.28 m in Chewbacca's case), full body hair, and communication via roars and grunts. He was born on Kashyyyk, the home planet of the Wookiees. Chewbacca was approximately 200 years old at the time of the Battle of Yavin. During the war between the Old Republic and the Separatists, he met Jedi Master Yoda, who had come with Star Destroyers and clone troopers to defend Kashyyyk. After the clone troopers turned on the Jedi, Yoda was taken to safety by Chewbacca.

After the Emperor's rise to power and the rise of the Empire, Chewbacca and other Wookiees were kidnapped and enslaved by Imperials. On the planet Mimban, Chewbacca was held captive in a pit for a long time, where numerous Stormtrooper deserters were thrown to him. On Mimban, he met the deserted Imperial soldier Han Solo, who helped him to freedom and left the planet with him and Tobias Beckett's gang of thugs. Chewbacca took part in the robbery of an Imperial train and followed Han Solo and Beckett to Dryden Vos' yacht, where he and his fellow soldiers were assigned to procure coaxium on Kessel. After stealing the coaxium, Chewbacca helped Han deliver the fuel to the pirate Enfys Nest on Savareen and double-cross Dryden Vos. After Han Solo won the Millennium Falcon in a game of sabacc against Lando Calrissian, Chewbacca became Han's co-pilot and worked as a smuggler with him as his partner from then on.

Aboard the Millennium Falcon, he was co-pilot, navigator and mechanic. In the war against the Galactic Empire, Chewbacca stayed by Han Solo's side, meeting Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa, among others. He was a crucial member of the Rebel Alliance.

Nearly 30 years after the destruction of the second Death Star, Chewbacca was part of the Resistance along with Han Solo, helping to destroy the First Order's Starkiller base. Subsequently, after his friend Han was killed by his son Ben Solo, he accompanied Rey, a scrap collector, to seek Luke Skywalker's help. He henceforth assisted Rey in her fight against the First Order and rescued members of the Resistance after the Battle of Crait. During the ensuing war between the First Order and the Resistance, Chewbacca led the Resistance fleet in the final battle on Exegol, along with General Lando Calrissian in the Millennium Falcon.

Chewbacca was portrayed by Peter Mayhew in Episodes III to VII. In Episode VII, Chewbacca was also doubled in some scenes by Joonas Suotamo, since Mayhew could no longer play many scenes himself due to his age. From Episode VIII onwards, Suotamo took over the role completely, with Mayhew remaining as an advisor.

Finn/FN-2187

Performances:

  • Episodes: VII, VIII, IX
  • Series: The Powers That Be

Known as FN-2187 (* 11 NSY), he was a First Order stormtrooper who participated in obtaining a map that would lead to the missing last Jedi Luke Skywalker. However, he deserted after his mission on Jakku and freed Resistance fighter Poe Dameron. Since the latter had to leave the map behind on Jakku, they returned there, with Dameron giving the stormtrooper the nickname Finn, which he used himself in the future. Crash-landing on Jakku, the two were separated and Finn met the junk collector Rey and the droid BB-8, who was holding the plans for Dameron. Together they fled the First Order, as Finn claimed to be of the Rebellion, and shortly thereafter participated in the destruction of the First Order's Starkiller base. During this, Finn was severely injured by Kylo Ren, but was brought aboard the Millennium Falcon by Rey and subsequently received medical attention. After coming out of his coma, he participated in a mission with Rose Tico and BB-8 to disable a homing device aboard Supreme Leader Snoke's Supremacy. After being arrested by local police on Canto Bight, the three of them, along with DJ, managed to escape and made it to the Mega-class Star Destroyer. There, however, they were discovered by the First Order, and their plan failed. After the Supremacy was severely damaged by Vice Admiral Holdo, Finn managed to overpower his former instructor and Stormtrooper leader, Captain Phasma, in combat, who subsequently fell to her death. In the ensuing battle for Crait, he was stopped from a suicide mission by Rose at the last second and was able to flee the planet with the rest of the Resistance.

A year later, after it was revealed that the Emperor had returned, Finn joined Rey, Poe, Chewbacca, and droids BB-8 and C-3PO on a mission to search for a Sith pathfinder. After the numerous events of this mission, Finn and his fellow crew members, after a brief stay on the planet Kijimi, infiltrated the First Order's Star Destroyer Steadfast to free the captured Chewbacca. There, he and Poe were also captured for the time being, but later escaped from the destroyer with the help of General Hux. On the moon Kef Bir, Finn encountered former Stormtrooper Jannah, who, much like himself, had deserted. Shortly after the death of Leia Organa, he was appointed by Poe Dameron as the second general of the Resistance. In the atmosphere of Exegol, Finn fought in the final battle against the First Order and the Sith fleet.

Finn often felt the Force within him and could act instinctively through it in certain situations. For example, he felt the death of his friend Rey or could sense that the Sith fleet was only controlled by a lead ship. For a long time he struggled with telling Rey this.

Finn was portrayed by John Boyega and dubbed in German by Stefan Günther. For his role as Finn, John Boyega was nominated for the Saturn Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role in 2016.

Han Solo

Performances:

  • Episodes: IV, V, VI, VII, IX
  • Anthology: Solo
  • Series: The Powers That Be

Han Solo (b. 32 VSY on Corellia; † 34 NSY at Starkiller Base) was a smuggler, pilot of the Millennium Falcon, and later a general in the Rebel Alliance. Han's father was a factory worker at a spaceport, building Corellian YT freighters. At a young age, Han did his first criminal jobs as an orphan for the White Worm gang. Together with his childhood sweetheart Qi'ra, he planned to escape from servitude. During their escape, the White Worm thugs managed to recapture Qi'ra. In order to one day free his girlfriend from the clutches of the gang, Han joined the Galactic Empire Academy to become a pilot. From the Imperial officer Drawd Munbrin, Han was assigned the last name Solo.

Years later, Han had to serve as a soldier in the Battle of Mimban and met the Wookie Chewbacca, to whom he was originally supposed to be thrown as a deserter. However, he helped the Wookie to freedom and joined the criminal gang of the gangster Tobias Beckett. On Mimban, Han joined Chewbacca in a robbery of an Imperial freight train, which failed, resulting in the deaths of two of the crew. On the yacht of the criminal leader of the Crimson Dawn crime syndicate, Han met Qi'ra again by chance after many years, who was now working for the syndicate. Han, Qi'ra, Chewbacca and Beckett were hired by Dryden Vos to steal coaxium fuel from the mines of Kessel. Han met the smuggler Lando Calrissian, who promised to fly the crew to Kessel in his ship - the Millennium Falcon. After the successful heist on Kessel, Han managed to fly the Millennium Falcon on the Kessel flight in a record-breaking time. Back in Savareen, after being double-crossed by Beckett on Vos' yacht, Han, along with the pirate and leader of a forming alliance, Enfys Nest, tricked Crimson Dawn into giving them the coaxium. When Han managed to shoot Tobias Beckett in a final confrontation, he eventually watched as Qi'ra, after murdering Vos, wordlessly disappeared with his yacht and left him. Shortly after the events on Savareen, Han won a game of sabacc against Lando Calrissian, the Millennium Falcon, and began a new life as a smuggler with Chewbacca.

Many years later, he met Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker in the cantina bar on Tatooine. Because he had to give up a shipload of smuggled goods to the Empire for Jabba, he was in deep debt to him for a long time, which is why he had a substantial bounty on his head. To elude his hunters, he joined the Rebel Alliance, freed the captured Leia Organa with Skywalker, and helped destroy the Death Star.

The bounty hunter Boba Fett did eventually manage to deliver Han to Jabba the Hutt after being frozen in carbonite. He had made a deal with Darth Vader, who used Han as bait for Luke to convert him to the dark side. However, after this failed, Vader handed over the frozen smuggler, who was merely to test the suitability of the facility before they would take Skywalker to the Emperor in carbonite. Later, Han was then freed by Princess Leia, killing Jabba in the process. At the Battle of Endor, Han, as a general on the forest moon, led the Rebel strike force to take out the shield generator of the second Death Star. It was at this time that Luke and Leia learned they were siblings, while Han and Leia fell in love.

Many years after defeating the Empire, Han and Leia had a son, whom they named Ben Solo. During Jedi training under Luke Skywalker, Ben fell to the dark side and became Kylo Ren. After this setback and Luke's disappearance, Han turned back to his old life as a smuggler and separated from Leia. In the days of the First Order, he met Rey and Finn in the Millennium Falcon previously stolen from him and accompanied them to the Resistance base, where he met his wife Leia Organa. Together with Chewbacca, he accompanied Finn, Poe Dameron and Rey to Starkiller Base, an ice world converted into a superweapon whose destructive power exceeded that of the Death Star many times over. There, he confronted his son and tried to convert him back to the light side of the Force. Kylo, however, would not be dissuaded from his path and killed his father.

In the episodes IV to VII and IX Han Solo was embodied by Harrison Ford. With this role he had his breakthrough as an actor. His German voice was Wolfgang Pampel. Alden Ehrenreich took over the role of the smuggler in Solo: A Star Wars Story. For a cameo in Episode IX, Ford faced the camera for the last time in his role in 2019. In Solo, Han was voiced by Florian Clyde in the German version, who received much praise for his work. For his role as Han Solo, Harrison Ford received the Saturn Award for Best Lead Actor in 2016. In 1977, he was nominated for the same category.

Lando Calrissian

Performances:

  • Episodes: V, VI, IX
  • Anthology: Solo
  • Series: Rebels

Landonis Balthazar "Lando" Calrissian III (b. 32 VSY ago on Socorro) was a baron and administrator of Cloud City, a Tibanna gas mine and pleasure resort on the planet Bespin. He was the original owner of the Millennium Falcon, which he lost to Han Solo in a gamble. He also won the gas mine in a game of sabbac. In his younger years as a smuggler, he met smugglers Han Solo, Tobias Beckett and Chewbacca in a bar on Vandor, who wanted to recruit him for a heist on Kessel. Lando participated in the heist and lost his co-pilot, the droid L3-37, with whom he had an intimate relationship, in a skirmish. Lando was injured in the escape, and with Han Solo at the helm of the Falcon, the crooks made the Corsair flight to Savareen, where Lando made his escape with the ship completely demolished. He later lost a game of sabacc to Han Solo, and handed the Millennium Falcon to the latter as a fair loser.

As Han Solo and his companions made their way to Bespin, the planet was secretly taken under control by Darth Vader and his stormtroopers. Lando had no choice and made a deal with Vader to capture the Rebel leaders who were on approach to Cloud City. In exchange, he was nearly strangled by Chewbacca. Lando quickly realized, however, that Vader was changing the agreement as he saw fit. Contrary to the original goal of capturing only Luke Skywalker, Han Solo was now to be turned over to bounty hunter Boba Fett, and Leia and Chewbacca were to be taken away by Vader. Han served as bait and was first tortured to make Luke feel the pain from the Force. After that, Vader had him frozen in carbonite to test the system. Vader wanted to freeze Luke, who was rushing to his friends' aid, and take him to the Emperor to win him over to the dark side. Lando subsequently helped Leia, Chewbacca, and the droids R2-D2 and C-3PO escape when he realized that Vader might break the entire agreement and keep Bespin under his control. Luke also escaped, but Han remained in the hands of the bounty hunter, who took him to Jabba the Hutt.

A year later, he infiltrated Jabba's palace and helped Luke and Leia free Han Solo. In the meantime, he had joined the Rebel Alliance like his comrades and was made a general. In the Battle of Endor, he participated in the attack on the Empire's Death Star and destroyed it as pilot of the Millennium Falcon, while Luke managed to convert his father Darth Vader back to the light side and defeat the Emperor for the time being.

After the fall of the Galactic Empire, Lando joined Luke Skywalker in a search for the Sith world of Exegol.

Years later, Lando came across his old friend Chewbacca and Resistance fighters Poe Dameron, Rey, Finn, C-3PO and BB-8 on Pasaana, where he helped them escape from First Order stormtroopers. Remembering the previously deceased Leia Organa and the times of the Rebel Alliance, he eventually decided to join the Resistance for the final battle against Emperor Palpatine. Before the Battle of Exegol, he persuaded all Rebels and defensible civilians in the galaxy to join the Resistance in the fight against the First Order and the Sith fleet. Together with Wedge Antilles and Chewbacca, he surprised the enemy armada aboard the Millennium Falcon with a large Rebel fleet led by him. Later, after defeating the First Order and the Emperor, Lando offered to accompany the deserted Stormtrooper Jannah in her search for her lost family.

Lando was portrayed by Billy Dee Williams in Episodes V, VI and IX. His German dubbing voice was done by Frank Glaubrecht, who also lent his voice to Lando in the series Star Wars Rebels. In the film Solo: A Star Wars Story, Lando was portrayed by Donald Glover, in the German version the character was voiced by René Dawn-Claude.

In Episode IX, it is hinted that Resistance fighter and deserter Stormtrooper Jannah Lando's missing daughter. However, this has not been officially confirmed by any of the contributors yet.

For his role as Lando Calrissian, Billy Dee Williams was nominated for the Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actor in both 1980 and 1983.

Leia Organa

Performances:

  • Episodes: III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX
  • Anthology: Rogue One
  • Series: Rebels, Resistance, The Powers That Be...

Princess Leia Organa (* 19 VSY on Polis Massa; † 35 NSY on Ajan Kloss), daughter of Senator Padmé Amidala and Jedi Anakin Skywalker, was separated from her brother Luke after birth and taken to Alderaan. There she grew up as the adopted daughter of Senator Bail Organa and Queen Breha Antilles Organa under the name Organa. Through adoption, she became the Princess of Alderaan, which is why she was often called Princess.

She was a leader of the Rebellion against the Empire. Her adoptive father tasked her with bringing Obi-Wan Kenobi from Tatooine to Alderaan after the Death Star plans were sent to her. Before she could seek out the Jedi Master, she was captured by Darth Vader and his Stormtroopers after a brief battle. He took her to the First Death Star and personally interrogated and tortured her to learn where she had hidden the plans and the location of the Rebel base. When confronted with the destruction of her home, she lied about the location of the rebels and gave the planetary system of a previous base as the current location. Still, she was unable to prevent Alderaan from being destroyed as a sign of the Galactic Empire's strength. After her lie was exposed, she was sentenced to execution and taken away to maximum security for the time being. Meanwhile, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Chewbacca learned of this through the help of droids C-3PO and R2-D2 and were able to free her. Not knowing that the ship was equipped with a homing beacon, they decided to fly to Yavin IV to deliver the plans to the Alliance. The Death Star was able to track the Rebel base through the homing beacon and was about to destroy it with its powerful main weapon. Just in time, Luke was able to use the plans to attack the Death Star's weak point and destroy it.

After this attack, the Rebels were chased off their base by the Imperial Fleet. On Hoth they found a new base, but even here she was able to track down Darth Vader. During her escape, she first became close to Han Solo and the two fell more and more in love. After escaping from an exogorth where the Millennium Falcon had landed, Leia and her squad sought out Cloud City on Bespin for help from Han Solo's friend Lando Calrissian. However, the latter betrayed them to the Empire and Han Solo was captured and Luke Skywalker was seriously injured in a battle with Vader. Some time later, with the help of Luke, Lando Calrissian and Chewbacca, Leia was able to rescue the smuggler from the clutches of the gangster Jabba. On this rescue mission, Leia disguised herself as the bounty hunter Boushh, whose mask she had obtained shortly before along with her friend Maz Kanata, and infiltrated the gangster's palace. There, however, she caught on and was briefly held as the Hutt's slave. While escaping from the sailing barge, Leia strangled the Hutt with a chain. Later, she was a member of the Rebel strike force on Endor that destroyed the shield generator for the second Death Star, allowing the attack on the Death Star itself. It was at this time that she learned from Luke that he was her twin brother and Darth Vader was her father.

Many years after the fall of the Galactic Empire, Leia began her Jedi training under Luke Skywalker. However, she ended this prematurely, because she had visions of the death of her future son at the end of her training. Together with her husband Han Solo she finally had their son Ben Solo in 5 NSY. From then on, she once again attended to her political career as part of the New Republic. As everyone went back to their own activities, she separated from Han for the time being. As a new Empire slowly but surely rose under Supreme Leader Snoke with the First Order, Leia single-handedly formed the Resistance, as the New Republic Senate did not take this new threat seriously. With the Resistance, Leia at first only wanted to monitor the activities of the First Order, but when it rose to a new galaxy-wide threat and spawned the start of a new war, the Resistance under Leia began to turn into a defensible force against their new enemies. Henceforth, a new bitter war raged between the Rebels and the First Order. On the planet D'Qar, the resistance established their first base. Leia's son Ben, who was trained by her brother Luke Skywalker, fell to the dark side of the Force after several events and destroyed the Jedi Temple under the new name Kylo Ren. As a result, Leia's brother retreated into exile. Several years later, Leia set out with the Resistance to find her brother and bring him back to fight the First Order. As a general in the Resistance, she was involved in the destruction of the First Order's Starkiller base. She then sent young Rey off to find Luke Skywalker and convince him to return. Leia was one of the few who knew that Rey was the granddaughter of former Emperor Sheev Palpatine. She coordinated the Resistance's escape from First Order forces and narrowly survived an attack by them on the bridge of her ship, in which she was able to use the Force to pull herself back into the ship. Due to her prolonged stay in open space, Leia fell into a coma and only woke up when her brother Luke contacted her with the Force. Shortly after, she was able to stop Poe Dameron's mutiny and together with her comrades, she made a plan to hide on the former rebel base on the planet Crait while escaping from the First Order. However, this plan was betrayed to the First Order by the codebreaker DJ and thus a battle broke out in the salt desert of Crait. The Resistance lost the battle, but were saved by a Force projection from Luke Skywalker, who told Leia one last time before he died that her son Ben was not yet lost. Her brother's diversion allowed the Resistance to escape on the Millennium Falcon.

A year later, Leia took over Rey's Jedi training at the Resistance's new base on Ajan Kloss, as Master. She contacted her son with the Force as a last act before her death to convert him to the Light Side. Due to the immense loss of strength and her already age-related weakness, Leia eventually died shortly before the final battle against the returned Emperor. When Ben Solo eventually died as a Jedi on Exegol as well, she and her son became one with the Force. Along with her brother Luke, she met her apprentice Rey as a Force ghost on Tatooine after defeating the First Order and the Emperor's fleet.

Princess Leia was portrayed in the episodes by Carrie Fisher, who died in December 2016, and dubbed in German by Susanna Bonaséwicz. In Rogue One, Leia was played by Ingvild Deila. Using computer technology, the facial features of the young Carrie Fisher were superimposed in post-production. In Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019), Fisher was incorporated into the plot of the films one last time through the use of unused film footage. In the German version of Rogue One, Leia was again dubbed by Susanna Bonaséwicz. In the animated series Star Wars Rebels and The Powers That Be, Leia is voiced in German by Magdalena Turba. For her role as Leia Organa, Carrie Fisher was nominated for the Saturn Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role (1983) and Best Supporting Actress (2016).

Luke Skywalker

Performances:

  • Episodes: III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX
  • Series: The Powers That Be, The Mandalorian...

Luke Skywalker (b. 19 VSY on Polis Massa; † 34 NSY on Ahch-To) was the son of Senator Padmé Amidala and Anakin Skywalker. He was the twin brother of Princess Leia Organa. Both were raised separately after birth so that their father, who was already the dark Sith Lord Darth Vader at the time, would not find out about them or come looking for them later. Vader didn't know at first that Padmé Amidala had given birth to her children after all, before she died. That they were even twins was entirely unknown to him.

Luke Skywalker was raised by his uncle Owen Lars and his wife Beru on the planet Tatooine. During this time, he mainly acquired the skills of surviving in the desert and repairing droids. However, his uncle had forbidden him to leave the farm and go to an academy, as he needed Luke for the harvest.

After acquiring the droids R2-D2 and C-3PO, Luke's life changed dramatically. Imperial soldiers who were searching for the two droids killed Owen and Beru. Luke was with the droids at the time with the hermit Obi-Wan Kenobi, but he was known to Luke only as Ben Kenobi. After the death of what he believed to be his only relatives, there was nothing left to keep him on Tatooine. So Obi-Wan began instructing Luke in the first steps of the Force, as he had intended to do since Luke's birth, suspecting Luke to be the chosen one of the prophecy after Anakin's disappointment. However, in a battle with his former apprentice Darth Vader, Kenobi died.

After playing a crucial role in the destruction of the first Death Star (he fired a torpedo directly into a Death Star ventilation shaft leading to the central reactor), he was given the rank of commander in the Rebel Army. There he served as a scout of a Rebel base on the ice planet Hoth. His knowledge in the use of the Force saved him from being killed many times. In search of the rebel hideout, Darth Vader sent out spy probes. The Rebel base on Hoth was discovered, and Imperial forces destroyed it while the crew fled. Luke did not meet up with the rest of the ships at the rendezvous point, but flew to Dagobah as he had been told to do by Obi-Wan as a Force ghost. There he met Yoda, the last living Jedi Master, and began his training as a Jedi Knight.

However, he dropped out of training early to save his friends on Bespin. There he had to face Darth Vader for the first time. He lost badly injured (Vader cut off his right hand) in a lightsaber duel against the Dark Lord, who revealed to him that he was his father. Luke Skywalker escaped and, like his father before him, received an artificial hand. He later returned to Tatooine to Obi-Wan Kenobi's now abandoned hut to make a new lightsaber.

When he learned that Han Solo was being held captive by Jabba the Hutt, he freed him with the help of Leia Organa, Lando Calrissian, Chewbacca and the droids R2-D2 and C-3PO. Before rejoining the Rebel Army, he flew to Dagobah again to complete his training with Yoda. Yoda explained to him that he would have to face Vader again to become a true Jedi Knight. He received certainty that Darth Vader was his father and Leia Organa was his twin sister. He learned the latter from Obi-Wan's ghost. The weakened Yoda subsequently died at the age of nearly 900 and became one with the Force.

Luke joined Han Solo, now promoted to general, to deactivate the shield of the new Death Star on the forest moon of Endor. This was to allow an attack on the second Death Star under construction in space above Endor. On Endor Luke confronted Darth Vader, thinking he could convert him to the light side of the Force. However, the latter took him to the Emperor, who wanted to lead Luke to the dark side. After a duel between Vader and Luke, the Emperor realized he had failed the Jedi's strong will and tried to kill Luke. However, just before Luke's death, Darth Vader saved his son. Vader threw the Emperor into the Death Star's reactor shaft. Luke's hope that there was still some good in his father was confirmed. However, the strength sapping battle with his son and the attack on the Emperor had mortally wounded Darth Vader - the Emperor's Force bolts struck Vader and shut down the functions of his life support armor. He died in Luke's arms. Afterwards, Luke fled with his father's body in an Imperial shuttle immediately before the destruction of the second Death Star.

Several years after his father's death, Luke heard the call of the Force-sensitive child Grogu, who had made contact with surviving Jedi in the galaxy from an ancient Jedi site on Tython. Luke made his way in his X-wing to the Imperial Moff Gideon's cruiser, and there met the Mandalorian Din Djarin and his team, who had come to rescue Grogu from the hands of the Remnant Empire. Luke defeated the Imperial dark forces and took the child with him to instruct him in the Jedi teachings.

Together with Lando Calrissian, Luke went in search of the secret world of the Sith, Exegol. After his apprentice and nephew Ben Solo fell to the dark side of the Force through a ruse by the resurrected Emperor and destroyed Luke's nascent Jedi Order, he retreated into exile on the remote planet of Ahch-To, where he took up residence in one of the first Jedi temples. However, Force user Rey was able to track him down with R2-D2's help. After initial doubts, he began to instruct Rey and make her understand why he had to go into exile and was no longer interested in following the Jedi path. Unable to convince Rey to help the Resistance and convert his nephew, she left Luke. In the end, Luke helped the Resistance anyway by using the Force Projection ability to distract Kylo Ren and the First Order. In doing so, he helped the Resistance escape. He then became one with the Force and died.

A year later, he appeared to his former Padawan student Rey on Ahch-To as a Force ghost and gave her his sister's lightsaber. When she buried the Skywalker twins' lightsabers on Tatooine after defeating the First Order and the Emperor, Luke reappeared to her with his sister Leia.

Luke Skywalker was portrayed in the films by Mark Hamill. In German, he was voiced by Hans-Georg Panczak. In The Mandalorian, Luke Skywalker was portrayed by a younger version of Mark Hamill using CGI and was doubled by Max Lloyd-Jones on set. Both Hamill's voice, reprising his role, and his face, were digitally rejuvenated for his scenes in the series. In German, however, Panczak's son Jan Makino voiced the role of the rejuvenated Luke.

For his role as Luke Skywalker, Mark Hamill received the Saturn Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role in 1980 and 1983. In 1977, he was nominated for the same category.

Mace Windu

Performances:

  • Episodes: I, II, III, IX (voice-over).
  • Series: The Clone Wars

Mace Windu (b. 72 VSY on Haruun Kal; † 19 VSY on Coruscant) was one of the most important Jedi Masters of the Old Republic and arguably one of the most powerful Jedi of all time. Windu was a hero of the Clone Wars, fought numerous battles against the Separatists, and was also a member of the Jedi High Council.

During the Separatist blockade of Naboo, Windu was one of the few who viewed the training of young Anakin Skywalker with skepticism and voted against placing the boy under the wing of Qui-Gon Jinn for the time being.

Shortly before the end of the Clone Wars, Windu learned through Anakin that Chancellor Palpatine was in fact the wanted Sith Lord Darth Sidious. Along with Jedi Masters Agen Kolar, Kit Fisto, and Saesee Tiin, Windu went to the Chancellor's office to arrest him. In the ensuing battle with the Chancellor, Windu was the only one who managed to defeat the Sith in a lightsaber duel. He was able to gain the upper hand in the duel, however, before he could kill him, Anakin Skywalker intervened and severed Windu's right hand. Defenseless without his lightsaber, he was struck by Darth Sidious' Force bolts and eventually flung out the window, whereupon he plummeted into the depths of Coruscant.

Mace Windu was portrayed by Samuel L. Jackson. Due to Jackson's request during the filming of Episode II if he could get a purple lightsaber, Windu is the only character to fight with a purple lightsaber in the films besides the standard green, red, and blue. On Samuel L. Jackson's lightsaber prop are written in aurebesh (the basic language of the Star War universe) the words; "Bad Motherfucker", which is a reference to Quentin Tarantino's film Pulp Fiction, in which Jackson played one of the main roles.

Obi-Wan/Ben Kenobi

Performances:

  • Episodes I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII (voice), IX (voice)
  • Series: The Clone Wars, Rebels, Obi-Wan Kenobi

Obi-Wan Kenobi (b. 57 VSY on Stewjon; † 0 VSY on the 1st Death Star) was a Jedi Master who was trained by Qui-Gon Jinn. Obi-Wan first killed the Sith Darth Maul over Naboo after the latter killed his master. He was then elevated to the rank of Jedi Knight. After Qui-Gon's death, Obi-Wan took over the training of Anakin Skywalker, as this was Qui-Gon's last wish. He believed Anakin to be the chosen one to bring balance to the Force, which Obi-Wan initially doubted.

Ten years later, Obi-Wan was assigned to ensure the safety of Senator Padmé, who had narrowly escaped assassination. Afterwards, a trail led him to the planet Kamino, where he encountered the bounty hunter Jango Fett and found a secret clone army supposedly produced on behalf of the Galactic Republic. He then made it to Geonosis in pursuit of the bounty hunter. There, after being captured by former Jedi and current Sith Lord Count Dooku, he was forced to fight for his life in the arena. During the Clone Wars, Obi-Wan served the Jedi Order on numerous missions, most recently as a general for the Republic.

After three years, he had become one of the most famous Jedi Masters and sat on the Jedi Council. He had achieved great fame with Anakin in the Clone Wars. With him he was also responsible for the hunt for Darth Tyranus and the release of Chancellor Palpatine. In the process, Anakin proved increasingly superior to his master, whom he repeatedly saved the life of. On Utapau, Obi-Wan confronted and defeated Separatist leader Grievous.

When Anakin turned to the dark side and killed all Jedi in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, Obi-Wan Kenobi tried to convert him on the planet Mustafar and lead him back to the light side. Kenobi failed, however, and subsequently engaged in a duel with Anakin, during which the latter was defeated by him and left severely injured on the edge of a lava flow. Believing he had mortally wounded Anakin, Kenobi traveled with Anakin's injured Padmé to the remote asteroid field Polis Massa. There, Padmé gave birth to her twins Luke and Leia and subsequently died. Kenobi took Luke to Tatooine and placed him in the care of his uncle Owen Lars and his wife Beru. For the next few years, Obi-Wan remained on Tatooine, waiting for the day when Luke could be trained as a Jedi. He also learned the art of communicating with his late Master Qui-Gon through Yoda. During this time, he lived in seclusion under the name Ben Kenobi.

Nineteen years after Luke's birth, the planet Tatooine came to the attention of the Empire. Luke's uncle and aunt were murdered by Imperial stormtroopers. From that moment on, Obi-Wan took over Luke Skywalker's training. The two had met shortly before when Obi-Wan rescued Luke from a horde of Sand People. Obi-Wan led Luke to his hut and there handed him his father's lightsaber, the one he had taken after the duel with Anakin. He let Luke believe that his father had died fighting the Empire, taught Luke how to use the lightsaber, instructed him in the Force, and initially supported him in his fight against Darth Vader, who Anakin had become. However, Obi-Wan allowed himself to be defeated during a battle with Vader on the first Death Star, allowing Luke and his companions to escape. As a result, his body disintegrated. This made Obi-Wan Kenobi one with the Force.

From then on, Luke Skywalker kept hearing Obi-Wan's voice. He guided Luke to Dagobah to complete his training as a Jedi through Yoda. After Yoda died due to old age, Obi-Wan told Luke the truth about his father's identity and that Leia was his sister. He implored Luke to face Darth Vader, only that would bring him the skills of a Jedi Knight. After defeating the Empire, Luke could see that Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Yoda were now reunited in the Force. Years later, Rey heard the echo of Kenobi's voice after touching what was once Anakin Skywalker's lightsaber.

Obi-Wan Kenobi was played by Ewan McGregor (Episodes I to III) and Alec Guinness (Episodes IV to VI). Philipp Moog lent him the German voice in McGregor's portrayal as well as in The Clone Wars, Ernst Wilhelm Borchert voiced Guinness' portrayal, while Christian Rode took over in Rebels. For Episode VII, an old audio snippet by Alec Guinness was used, as well as a newly-recorded text by Ewan McGregor. In Rebels, James Arnold Taylor (Obi-Wan) and Stephan Stanton (Ben) lent their voices to the character.

For his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Alec Guinness was nominated for an Oscar and Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor in 1978. In 1977, he received the Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actor. Ewan McGregor was nominated for a Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actor for the same role in 2000.

Padmé Amidala

Performances:

  • Episodes: I, II, III
  • Series: The Clone Wars, The Powers That Be...

Padmé Amidala (b. 46 VSY as Padmé Amidala Naberrie on Naboo; † 19 VSY on Polis Massa) was the Queen and later Senator of Naboo. Her reign saw the Crisis of Naboo. The Trade Federation had the Queen captured in an attempt to gain control of the planet. However, she was freed by Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi and escaped to Tatooine with two maids and several members of the personal guard. At this time, she unnoticedly switched roles with one of her maids to protect herself. Against the wishes of the false queen and her bodyguard, Padmé accompanied the Jedi to Mos Espa, one of the desert planet's cities. There she met nine-year-old Anakin Skywalker, his mother Shmi, and the droid C-3PO, who helped them repair the ship damaged during their escape from Naboo. Showing great potential for power, Anakin was ransomed by Qui-Gon from his master Watto and accompanied them to Coruscant.

Once on the planet, Padmé cast a vote of no confidence in the incumbent Chancellor Valorum due to his inability to end the crisis over Naboo due to the influence of the bureaucrats. Thus, she enabled Senator Palpatine to rise to power. Upon returning to Naboo, Padmé convinced the native Gungans to fight against the Trade Federation. In the end, the two previously feuding races managed to defeat the Trade Federation battle droids and restore peace.

Ten years later, Padmé and Anakin met again and fell in love. By now, Padmé was no longer Queen, but Senator of Naboo. They married in secret on Naboo, even though it conflicted with the Jedi code of conduct Anakin was bound by.

Padmé became pregnant and watched with concern as Anakin became more and more devoted to his feelings. After hearing from Obi-Wan that he had fallen to the dark side, she traveled to Mustafar to find her husband. There, after an argument, she was injured by Anakin. Obi-Wan rescued her after defeating Anakin and brought her to safety in Polis Massa. Shortly after, she gave birth to her children, twins Luke and Leia. After giving birth, Padmé passed away, having lost Anakin and with him her will to live. The children were then raised separately to hide them from their father, who had survived the battle against Obi-Wan.

Padmé Amidala was portrayed by Natalie Portman. Her German dubbing voice was provided by Manja Doering. For her role as Padmé Amidala, Natalie Portman was nominated for the Saturn Award for Best Actress in 2000 and for Best Actress in a Leading Role in 2003 and 2005.

Poe Dameron

Performances:

  • Episodes: VII, VIII, IX
  • Series: Rebels (Voice), Resistance

Poe Dameron (* 2 NSY on Yavin IV), before joining the Resistance as a pilot, led an uncivilized life on the streets of the planet Kijimi as a member of a criminal spice smuggling gang. There, he was in a relationship with a smuggler named Zorii Bliss, but he broke up with her and eventually joined the New Republic and the Resistance under Leia Organa.

On a mission in 34 NSY to gain possession of a map to the missing Luke Skywalker, he was captured by the First Order and handed the map over to his droid BB-8. Poe was tortured and interrogated by Kylo Ren on the Star Destroyer Finalizer. The deserted Stormtrooper Finn freed him shortly thereafter, and together they returned to Jakku, where BB-8 still resided. They managed to escape, however Poe was separated from Finn by a crash landing. Poe later led the attack on the First Order's Starkiller base with his squadron of X-wings and helped destroy the planet. After the Resistance base was destroyed by the First Order, Poe defied a command from Leia Organa and led a risky attack on an enemy battleship against his orders, costing the Resistance a large portion of its fleet. After Leia Organa was severely injured and Amilyn Holdo took command of the Resistance, Poe began to distrust the new leader and became the head of a mutiny aboard the Resistance flagship. Later, Poe fought in the Battle of Crait and, while the previously Force-projected Luke Skywalker kept the First Order busy, initiated an escape from the base's mine. After the successful escape, in the Millennium Falcon, he eventually met Jedi student Rey.

After news spread that the Emperor had returned a year after the events on Crait, he accompanied Rey, Chewbacca and Finn to Pasaana to search for a Sith pathfinder. On a mission to reprogram C-3PO to translate ancient Sith runes, Poe found himself back in Kijimi after many years, where he once again encountered Zorii Bliss. She presented him with a stolen First Order badge that allowed him to land in enemy ships. With the help of General Hux, who had revealed himself as a spy, Poe and Finn managed to escape from the Star Destroyer Steadfast after successfully rescuing the previously captured Chewbacca. After the death of Leia Organa, Poe rose to the position of leader of the Resistance, sharing that post with Finn. As the new general, he led the Resistance fleet in the final Battle of Exegol.

Poe Dameron was portrayed by Oscar Isaac. Alexander Doering lent him his voice in the German version.

Qui-Gon Jinn

Performances:

  • Episodes: I, II (voice-over), IX (voice-over).
  • Series: The Clone Wars, Rebels (voice).

Qui-Gon Jinn (* 92 VSY on Coruscant; † 32 VSY on Naboo) was a wise but headstrong Jedi Master and mentor to Obi-Wan Kenobi. Because of his headstrong nature and constant defiance of Jedi Council decisions, Qui-Gon was never accepted into it. It was he who believed young Anakin Skywalker to be the Chosen One and wanted to train him as a Jedi.

Qui-Gon was an excellent fighter and the master of Obi-Wan Kenobi. He was the student of Count Dooku, who after Qui-Gon's death fell to the dark side of the Force and became Darth Tyranus. Qui-Gon had a green lightsaber. He investigated the crisis on Naboo with Obi-Wan, where the Trade Federation had set up a blockade. After military action was launched to bring the planet under control, the Jedi freed Queen Amidala and helped her escape. To repair their damaged ship, they landed on Tatooine and Qui-Gon met the slave boy Anakin Skywalker. He recognized the extraordinary strength of the Force in Anakin and came to believe Anakin was the chosen one who would defeat the Sith and bring balance to the Force. As a result, he decided to take him to Coruscant and train him as a Jedi. Through a wager with Anakin's master Watto in conjunction with the Pod Race, which Anakin eventually won, Qui-Gon freed the boy from his slavery. He fought, before fleeing with Anakin, Obi-Wan, the Queen and her guards to Coruscant, against the dark Sith disciple Darth Maul, who was pursuing the Queen. When he introduced Anakin to the Jedi Council on Coruscant, the Council initially refused to train the boy as a Jedi, saying he was too old. After the Queen decided to return to Naboo to rid the planet of the occupation, Qui-Gon was sent along with Obi-Wan to escort them back there. He later died there in a lightsaber duel against Darth Maul, but while dying he instructed Obi-Wan to take over Anakin's training. During the Clone Wars, Qui-Gon managed to discover the path to immortality and become one with the Force. Thus, even though he was dead, he could speak to Anakin, Yoda, and Obi-Wan through the Force.

Qui-Gon Jinn was portrayed by Liam Neeson in Episode I, in German he was voiced by Bernd Rumpf. For his role as Qui-Gon Jinn, Liam Neeson was nominated for the Saturn Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role in 2000.

R2-D2

Performances:

  • Episodes: I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX
  • Anthology: Rogue One
  • Series: The Clone Wars, Rebels, The Powers That Be, The Mandalorian...

R2-D2 (pronounced: er-zwo de-zwo [English (phonetic): Artoo-Detoo]) was an intelligent and courageous astromech droid who could repair starships in the function of a mechanic. Astromech droids had many functions and were used on space fighters, among other things, to pilot them when the living pilot failed or to repair small things in flight. Standing 1.09 meters tall, R2-D2 can only make whistling sounds. His speech is often translated by his inseparable friend C-3PO. When R2-D2 is used as a helper in a spaceship, the on-board computer translates the language for the pilot. However, Anakin Skywalker and later his son Luke were able to interpret most of his sounds after years of working together.

During the Naboo Crisis, Queen Padmé Amidala fled to Coruscant to seek help against the Trade Federation blockade. During her escape, the ship was damaged, but R2-D2 was able to keep it airworthy. On Tatooine, he made the acquaintance of another droid named C-3PO, whom he encountered several more times. He also accompanied Anakin as a co-pilot in a Naboo starfighter in the Battle for Naboo, which helped them liberate the planet.

Later, R2-D2 traveled with Anakin and Padmé to Naboo, where she hid from Separatist assassination attempts. When Anakin's mother Shmi Skywalker was kidnapped by Sand People on Tatooine, Anakin tried to free her but was too late. Shortly after, his master Obi-Wan Kenobi was captured while on a scouting mission on Geonosis. R2-D2 arrived there with Anakin, Padmé and C-3PO - with whom he had formed a friendship of sorts - and freed him with the help of the Jedi and Clone Wars.

At the end of the Clone Wars, he fought in Anakin's space fighter in the Battle of Coruscant. When his master was seduced to the dark side of the Force and overthrew the Republic under the name Darth Vader, he became the property of Senator Bail Organa, who was loyal to the Republic, and later his adopted daughter Leia.

In the ensuing Galactic Civil War, he played an important role in the fight against the Galactic Empire, which had replaced the Republic under the leadership of Vader and his master Darth Sidious. He delivered the plans of the Death Star, a space station with enormous firepower, to the Rebel Alliance and met Luke Skywalker. He accompanied him in many battles, including on Hoth and Endor.

Many years later, R2-D2 stood by his owner Luke Skywalker's side when his nephew Ben Solo destroyed the New Jedi Academy. Before Luke disappeared into exile, he left behind in R2 a section of the map that led to Ahch-To. Until the destruction of Starkiller Base, R2 was in standby mode, activating after many years of absence to complete the map. He accompanied Rey Skywalker to Ahch-To, where he was able to persuade his former owner Luke, through Leia Organa's ancient hologram, to train Rey in the Jedi teachings after the Battle of Scarif.

Shortly before the Battle of Exegol, R2-D2 was able to use a backup copy to return his erased memory to his friend C-3PO, who had just been reprogrammed by Babu Frik to translate runes from the Sith language. R2-D2 was there when the Resistance celebrated the victory over the First Order and Emperor Palpatine.

In the episodes IV - VI R2-D2 moved exclusively with his rolling feet. In Episodes I - III, it is additionally possible for him to move by flying through propulsion jets. The droid was played by actor Kenny Baker, who died in 2016 and measured 111 cm. As of Episode VII, Jimmy Vee took over this role. Alternatively, he is also remote controlled or animated. The voice of R2-D2 is composed in part of sound designer Ben Burtt's voice and sounds created with an ARP-2600 synthesizer. R2-D2 was an unusual astromech droid in that he could perform tasks better than normal astromechs; in addition, R2-D2 had a myriad of tools and a highly intelligent computer unit with large data storage.

It got its name from the sound editor Walter Murch, who worked with Lucas on his 1973 film American Graffiti. When he asked Lucas, who was already writing the screenplay of the first Star Wars film, for the (film) reel 2 with dialogue track 2 (English: Reel 2, Dialoge Track 2), R-2-D-2 for short, the latter listened up and said: "Great name" and took it over into the screenplay. Lucas modeled the characters R2-D2 and C-3PO after the crooks Tahei and Matashichi from Akira Kurosawa's The Hidden Fortress, which served the author to use a certain narrative technique from the paired characters' point of view.

The Zweibrücken observatory looks like R2-D2's big brother.

Rey Skywalker

Performances:

  • Episodes: VII, VIII, IX
  • Series: The Powers That Be, Rebels (voice-over).

Rey Skywalker (b. 15 NSY as Rey Palpatine; † 35 NSY on Exegol; resurrected) was, for the time being, a Force-sensitive scrap collector. Her father was a failed clone - and thus the son of the Emperor, Sheev Palpatine. Sensing the immense power in his granddaughter and seeing in her his heir to the throne, Palpatine sent the assassin Ochi of Bestoon to Jakku, where he was to kidnap Rey. Rey's parents learned of the Emperor's order and hid their daughter on the desert planet of Jakku. Ochi of Bestoon killed Rey's parents and from the age of five, Rey grew up alone on Jakku, living in an old AT-AT. Rey could not remember the events of her childhood in her adolescence and early adulthood, and because of this, she constantly waited for her parents to return.

One day, she encountered the droid BB8, who was ‑carrying a map that led to the lost Jedi Master Luke Skywalker and was supposed to deliver it to the Resistance. When she subsequently encountered the deserted stormtrooper Finn, they fled Jakku together and came into contact with the Resistance. The Resistance was fighting against the successor of the Galactic Empire, the First Order. When she joined Han Solo, Chewbacca and Finn in the attack on the First Order base, she encountered Kylo Ren, who killed Han Solo and seriously injured Finn. Earlier, she had obtained Luke Skywalker's old lightsaber that once belonged to his father Anakin, which she now used to attack Kylo Ren, injuring him in turn. However, as the First Order's Starkiller base began to explode from the Resistance attack, Rey was forced to retreat; she fled aboard the Millennium Falcon. Shortly after, she, along with Chewbacca and R2-D2, headed to Ahch-To to seek Luke Skywalker's help. To her surprise, however, she found she did not find the Jedi Master she had expected. Luke refused to train Rey for the time being, blaming himself heavily on his former student and nephew Ben Solo, who he felt he had failed to train. After Luke reluctantly taught her lessons about the Force and explained why the Jedi's time had to end, Rey mysteriously had several Force connections with Kylo Ren. Hidden from Luke for the time being, Rey built an intimate relationship with Kylo Ren and got to know him better through the connections. When Luke caught Rey having a conversation with Kylo Ren, the Jedi ordered her to leave the island. Without Luke, she eventually set out to face Kylo Ren, who she was convinced would join her and turn his back on the First Order. However, aboard the Supremacy, Supreme Leader Snoke's ship, she found that she was unsuccessful in that regard. After Kylo Ren assassinated his master, they fought and defeated his bodyguards together. Kylo Ren told Rey after the fight that her parents were simple junk collectors who, according to Kylo Ren, sold their daughter for money on Jakku. In a subsequent duel over Anakin Skywalker's former lightsaber, it was destroyed before the Supremacy was severely damaged by Vice Admiral Holdo. Rey escaped from the breaking apart ship and helped the Resistance escape from First Order forces on Crait before leaving the planet aboard the Millennium Falcon along with Chewbacca, Leia Organa, Poe Dameron, Finn, BB8, ‑R2D2, ‑C-3PO and all remaining members of the Resistance.

A year after the Battle of Crait, Rey continued to be trained in the Jedi teachings by Leia Organa on Ajan Kloss. When the Resistance learned that Darth Sidious, thought dead, had returned, Rey, along with Finn, Poe Dameron and Chewbacca, and the droids C-3PO and BB-8, went in search of an ancient Sith pathfinder who revealed the Emperor's whereabouts. Rey was able to find records of that relic shortly before in the Jedi sacred writings. Once on Pasaana, Rey experienced a renewed Force connection with Kylo Ren for the first time in a long time. In the desert of the planet, Rey and her companions found the dagger of Ochi, who had also murdered her parents with it. Discovering a wounded Vexis Serpent in a cave, she was able to heal it of its injuries with the Force. In the desert of the planet she met Kylo Ren, who knew of her origin and therefore wants to test her for her dark side in the Force. That test succeeded and Rey inadvertently destroyed a First Order transporter with a volley of Force bolts. When Rey and her companions infiltrated the Star Destroyer Steadfast via Kijimi to free the captured Chewbacca from the clutches of the First Order, she had a second quick Force connection with Kylo Ren, with whom she could duel across the Force for the first time. Kylo Ren enlightened Rey about her true origins a short time later. In the wreckage of the second Death Star on Kef Bir, Rey finally found the pathfinder and encountered a dark vision of herself. In what was once Palpatine's throne room, she once again encountered Kylo Ren, who destroyed the Wayfinder shortly thereafter to set off for Exegol with Rey. In a duel against him, Rey, being haunted by a Force connection from his mother, managed to stab Kylo. However, Rey healed the latter with the Force and fled to her late master's island of Ahch-To with his TIE fighter. When she gave herself up there and wanted to burn the lightsaber of Anakin Skywalker, the Force ghost of Luke Skywalker appeared to her, who talked to her and gave her the old lightsaber of Leia Organa. With her master's old X-wing and the burned pathfinder from Kylo Ren's TIE fighter, Rey finally set off for Exegol. There she met her grandfather, who had been expecting her and promptly offered her the throne of the Sith, since Palpatine said it was her birthright to rule over the new Sith Empire. In an occult ritual, Rey was to strike down her grandfather so that, with his spirit inside her, she could ascend to the throne. But Rey stood up to Emperor Palpatine, and together with Kylo Ren - who had returned to the light side of the Force as Jedi Knight Ben Solo - they defeated the Emperor's guards and the Knights of Ren. Through Palpatine, Rey learned that she and Ben Solo formed a dyad in the Force and therefore shared bonds. The Emperor, with this new knowledge, began to drain Rey and Ben Solo of their life energy. After Rey was weakened immensely, she heard the voices of all the Jedi from times past, giving her new strength. In a final battle, Rey managed to kill her grandfather Emperor Palpatine with the lightsabers of Luke and Leia, but she herself died in the destruction of the throne room by a shockwave of Force lightning. Rey, however, was brought back to life by Ben Solo transferring all of his life energy into her. She shared a brief kiss with Ben Solo, but he died from the immense loss of power a short time later, becoming one with the Force.

After triumphing over Palpatine and the First Order, Rey returned to Ajan Kloss in Luke's X-wing and celebrated the victory with all the Resistance fighters and their friends. Sometime later, Rey headed to the Skywalkers' homeworld of Tatooine and sought out the abandoned wet farm of Owen Lars. There, she buried the Skywalker twins' lightsabers in the sand and encountered the Force ghosts of Luke Skywalker and the previously deceased Leia. Rey decided to call herself Rey Skywalker in memory of the two.

Rey was portrayed by Daisy Ridley in Episodes VII-IX, and in a Force vision in Episode VII and IX, she was portrayed by Cailey Fleming as a five-year-old girl. Her German dubbing voice is Kaya Marie Möller.

Yoda

Performances:

  • Episodes: I, II, III, V, VI, VIII, IX (voice-over).
  • Series: The Clone Wars, Rebels, The Powers That Be...

Yoda (* 896 VSY; † 4 NSY on Dagobah) belonged to an unknown species, was 66 cm tall, and was 900 years old at the end of his life. He had trained numerous students in the use of the Force over 800 years as a Jedi (Grand) Master, including Luke Skywalker and Count Dooku, among others, and was a master in the use of the lightsaber. He also had a strong connection to the Force, surpassed only by Anakin Skywalker. With Mace Windu, he was the head of the Jedi Council and one of the wisest and most powerful Jedi Masters of all time. When Emperor Palpatine sought to take control of the Galactic Republic, the corrupted Anakin Skywalker destroyed the Jedi Order on his behalf. Only Yoda, Anakin's master Obi-Wan Kenobi, and several other Jedi survived. Yoda was defeated in his attempt to kill the Emperor and retreated into exile.

While Kenobi hid on Tatooine, Yoda retreated to Dagobah. Years later, Luke Skywalker went to the planet on the orders of the Force's Obi-Wan Kenobi and began training with Yoda to become a Jedi Knight. When Luke visited Dagobah for the last time, Yoda died of old age at exactly 900 years old. As a result, Yoda, like Obi-Wan before him, became one with the Force and later emerged as an apparition of the Force, along with Anakin Skywalker, who had been converted by his son Luke, and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Thirty years later, Yoda's spirit appeared to Luke Skywalker again, in his exile on Ahch-To. He reassured Skywalker that failure was an essential part of every Jedi, and was thus instrumental in convincing Luke to support the Resistance.

Yoda was controlled as a puppet by Frank Oz and voiced in the original English; he stands out particularly for his idiosyncratic grammar, the most notable feature of which is the frequent object-subject-verb word order (example: "Much to learn you still have."). The original design for the character was by Stuart Freeborn. During the filming of The Empire Strikes Back, make-up artist Nick Maley ("That Yoda Guy") was most notably involved in the creation of the character.

While Yoda was always a physical puppet in the classic trilogy and Episode I (except for one scene at the end of the film), in Episodes II and III he is a completely digitized character, which gave George Lucas the opportunity to incorporate Yoda into action scenes. The lightsaber duel between Yoda and Count Dooku was based on these new possibilities. On the Blu-ray, as well as in the 3D theatrical version, Yoda is also depicted as a computer-generated character in Episode I. In the non-digitized version of Episode I, the puppet model is also different from the one used in Episode V and VI. In Episode VIII, a puppet was again used.

After discovering that his initially purely scientific research on kyber crystals was being used by the Empire to build the Death Star weapon, he fled with his family with the help of Saw Gerrera. However, only a short time later they were found by Orson Krennic, Director of Weapons Research for the Imperial military, who had Jyn's mother killed and forced her father to work on completing the Death Star. Jyn was rescued by resistance fighter Saw Gerrera, who protected her for several years. However, since she was sixteen she had to survive on her own and became a criminal. When the Rebel Alliance freed her from an Imperial prison, she reluctantly at first joined Rebel soldier Cassian Andor and K-2SO to rescue her father. The latter had secretly installed a vulnerability in the Death Star, which could destroy the battle station. However, Galen died in the failed rescue mission, and Jyn was only able to verbally deliver the vulnerability to the Alliance. Together with Cassian and some volunteers, she then went to Scarif to steal the Death Star plans from the Imperial archives. The battle resulted in the deaths of all the rebels on the ground, including Jyn and Cassian. Before that, however, they managed to transmit the plans to the Rebel fleet.

However, he recognized Jyn's intentions over time and became her protector as well, alongside Cassian's. He gained Andor and Jyn Erso access to the archive where the plans of the first Death Star were stored, and barricaded the main door to protect it from Imperial stormtroopers. He defended the entrance until the soldiers could penetrate its armor with numerous shots and destroy it.

K-2SO is a computer-generated character through performance capture technology. His movements and voice come from Alan Tudyk. In the German version he is dubbed by Florian Halm.

In the days of the Galactic Empire, Beckett was hired by the Crimson Dawn crime syndicate to rob an Imperial cargo train full of coaxium. With his lover Val and the Ardennian Rio Durant, Beckett infiltrated the Imperial infantry and more or less volunteered to fight as a captain at the Battle of Mimban. Along with his crew, he managed to capture an Imperial transport ship and escape the planet with deserted soldier Han Solo and Wookie Chewbacca. The raid on an Imperial freight train on Vandor failed and he lost Val and Rio. Beckett persuaded his employer Dryden Vos to use a fast ship to attempt another coaxium heist in the mines of Kessel. Together with Han Solo, Chewbaca and Vos' confidant Qi'ra, Beckett hired the smuggler Lando Calrissian to fly them to Kessel in his ship - the Millennium Falcon. This time the heist succeeded and after a crash landing on the planet Savareen, Tobias Beckett once again encountered the pirate Enfys Nest, but she turned out to be the leader of an alliance against Crimson Dawn and part of a fledgling rebellion. Seeking only his own advantage, Beckett soon after only double-crossed Han Solo and then Dryden Vos in quick succession. Protagonists (series)

Agent Alexsandr Kallus/Fulcrum II.

Performances:

  • Series: Rebels

Agent Alexsandr Kallus a.k.a. Fulcrum II (b. c. 44 VSY on Coruscant), was an agent of the Imperial Security Bureau who carried a J-19 Bo rifle, the rare weapon of the Lasan Honor Guard. In 5 VSY, he was dispatched to Lothal to investigate the activities of a rebel cell that had made several attacks on the Imperial garrison there. In the course of his investigation, he discovered that the leader of the cell, Kanan Jarrus, was a Jedi. As a result, he was assisted by the Inquisitor in his efforts against the insurgents. Kallus made several attempts to stop the rebels, but always failed. When the rebels were able to free Kanan Jarrus, who had been captured under the command of Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin, Darth Vader was dispatched to Lothal to take over for the Inquisitor, who had been killed over Mustafar. Later, Kallus worked as a spy for the Rebels, having realized that the Empire meant the galaxy no good.

In the English dubbed version, Kallus is voiced by David Oyelowo. In German, he is dubbed by Torsten Michaelis.

Ahsoka Tano/Fulcrum I.

Performances:

  • Episodes: IX (voice-over)
  • Series: The Clone Wars, Rebels, The Mandalorian, The Powers That Be, Ahsoka

Ahsoka Tano a.k.a. Fulcrum I (b. 36 VSY on Shili; † 20 VSY on Mortis; resurrected there) was a Togruta and the Padawan student of Anakin Skywalker. She was assigned to him during the Clone Wars (Battle of Christophsis). Through Ahsoka, the Jedi High Council hoped to curb Anakin's short temper and that he would mature in his mentoring role. After initial difficulties, she and her master became friends. Together, they fought many battles during the Clone Wars. On the planet Mortis, the son, the personification of the dark side of the Force, took her life. With the help of the daughter, the personification of the light side, she was revived shortly after. When an attack was made on the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, Ahsoka came under suspicion. However, Anakin discovered that the dark Jedi Barriss Offee was the one responsible, thus ensuring his apprentice's rehabilitation. Ahsoka, whose faith in the Jedi was shaken, left the Order, however.

After a short time, Ahsoka Tano returned to the service of the Grand Army of the Republic and led a group of clone troopers along with Commander Rex to Mandalore to overthrow the ruling Shadow Collective under Maul's leadership and restore Mandalore's independence. Maul told Ahsoka on Mandalore that Anakin Skywalker was to become the new apprentice of his master, Darth Sidious. After a battle against Maul, she and the clone troopers managed to capture Maul. On the way back to Coruscant, Ahsoka felt a tremor in the Force caused by the fight in the Supreme Chancellor's office between Mace Windu, Darth Sidious, and Anakin Skywalker. Shortly thereafter, Darth Sidious issued Order 66, ordering the clone troopers to turn on their Jedi generals and commanders and execute them for allegedly betraying the Republic. Ahsoka Tano went to Rex, who had just received the order, and commented that something strange was going on. At the same time, the clones present on the bridge circled Ahsoka as Commander Rex dropped his helmet, turned around and pointed both of his blasters at Ahsoka, saying "Find Fives" several times through tears. This was referring to the clone soldier CT-5555 aka Fives, who had discovered the inhibitor chip implanted in the clone troopers by the Kaminoans to follow their respective orders. Ahsoka rescued herself and Rex from the bridge and removed Rex's inhibitor chip and they both escaped from the cruiser.

14 years after the end of the Clone Wars, Ahsoka returned from exile and joined the fight against the Empire. In the course of her rebel activities, she discovers that her old master had since become the Sith Lord Darth Vader. During a battle against him, she was trapped in an old Sith temple on Malachor. She survived this battle thanks to young Ezra Bridger, saving her through the same world through which he had obtained his lightsaber crystal from Yoda. He had watched Ahsoka fight Darth Vader through a portal in a Jedi temple, and just as Vader was about to strike the decisive blow, Ezra pulled Ahsoka through the portal. However, due to possible time paradoxes, she had to return to Malachor.

After the Battle of Endor, she and Sabine Wren went in search of the missing Ezra.

In the New Republic era, Ahsoka was on the planet Corvus, trying to get information from Magistrate Morgan Elsbeth about the whereabouts of Grand Admiral Thrawn. There, Ahsoka met the Mandalorian Din Djarin, who had sought her out on behalf of her old friend Bo-Katan Kryze. Djarin asked her to instruct the Force-sensitive child Grogu in the Jedi teachings. Ahsoka was able to provide Din Djarin with information about Grogu's past, but refused to take on the child's training for fear that Grogu would suffer the same fate as her master, Anakin. Instead, Ahsoka directed the bounty hunter to the Jedi Temple on the planet Tython, where Djarin was to take the child. Ahsoka then bid farewell to Din and Grogu to continue her search for Grand Admiral Thrawn.

She is voiced by Ashley Eckstein in the original of all non-physical appearances, and by Josephine Schmidt in the German version. In the real series The Mandalorian, Ahsoka Tano is played by Rosario Dawson and continues to be dubbed by Schmidt in German. Dawson will embody the role again in the upcoming series Ahsoka.

C1-10P/Chopper

Performances:

  • Anthology: Rogue One
  • Series: Rebels, The Powers That Be...

C1-10P, called Chopper, was a C1 astromech droid who was responsible for keeping the starship operational on the Ghost. This was a task only he could perform, as he had heavily modified the Ghost. It was assembled from various spare parts, as its owners, Rebels Against the Galactic Empire, could not afford new components, and thus featured hardly any original parts. Chopper was considered nagging, argumentative, irritable and unfriendly, but was loyal to his crew.

Chopper's appearance is based on designs by Ralph McQuarrie for R2-D2 in Episode IV. Dave Filoni voiced the role in secret and only revealed his involvement after Rebels ended.

Captain Rex

Performances:

  • Series: The Clone Wars, Rebels, The Bad Batch...

Captain CT-7567 called Rex, (b. 32 VSY on Kamino) was a clone trooper and captain of the Torrent Company who took the nickname Rex after his training. In the course of the Clone Wars, he was assigned to Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker and later his Padawan Ahsoka Tano. His many missions during the conflict included preventing the Confederacy of Independent Systems from invading his homeworld of Kamino, meeting the deserter Cut Lawquane during the Battle of Saleucami, fending off an attack on the Galactic Republic's clone facilities, and defying the orders of his Jedi General Pong Krell with the soldiers of the 501st Legion during the conquest of Umbara.

Just before the end of the Clone Wars, Captain Rex was elevated to the position of Commander. Together with the former Jedi Ahsoka Tano, he went to Mandalore with a clone army to capture Darth Maul and return Mandalore to its neutrality. On the way back to Coruscant, the latter received the order for Order 66 on the bridge of the cruiser. In a moment of hesitation, Rex spared Ahsoka Tano, burst into tears and tipped her off to find Fives. He thus alerted her to the inhibitor chip, which Ahsoka was able to remove. Together, Ahsoka and Rex fled into exile.

Rex lived with clone warriors Wolffe and Gregor in a modified AT-TE runner on the planet Seelos after the Clone Wars. After the crew of the Ghost asked the three clones for help, Rex joined the Rebel Network. Rex stood by the Rebel Network even after the individual cells merged into the Rebel Alliance and fought in the battle for the second Death Star on Endor.

Rex is voiced in the original by Dee Bradley Baker, in the German version by Martin Keßler.

Din Djarin/The Mandalorian

Performances:

Series: The Mandalorian

Din Djarin (nicknamed Mando) was a bounty hunter who plied his trade on numerous planets across the galaxy after the fall of the Galactic Empire. As a child, he was found by Mandalorians from the Death Watch when Separatist droids killed his parents. He later became a member of the Guild as a Mandalorian bounty hunter.

In his ship Razor Crest, during the time of the New Republic, circa 9 NSY, he was given a mysterious assignment dealing with surviving followers of the Empire. At the destination on Arvala-7, Djarin found Grogu, a child of the unknown species Yoda, but shortly after handing him over to the client and an Imperial scientist, he freed him from the clutches of the Empire again out of compassion. By this action, Djarin had betrayed the guild of middleman Greef Karga and was forced to flee from hostile bounty hunters and Imperials intent on reclaiming the child. In time, Din discovered that the child could use the Force when he used telekinesis to protect him from an attacking Mudhorn. On the run from the Guild and the Empire, Djarin settled for some time on the planet Sorgan, where he helped former shock trooper Cara Dune and the inhabitants of a village drive off attacking Klatooinians who were trying to raid the village with an AT-ST. There, for a moment, he toyed with the idea of leaving the child behind in the village, to give it a life without escape in the presence of the peaceful villagers. However, Djarin took it back with him, as word of where he had been hiding from his enemies had spread through the battle against the Klatooinians, and the child had nearly been murdered by an assassin earlier.

After a few more missions and events, Djarin received a promising offer from Greef Karga, who had hunted him down shortly after Djarin had freed the child. Djarin, along with Cara Dune, was ordered by Karga to Nevarro, where the remnants of the Empire had occupied an entire territory. With his newly assembled force, consisting of the assassin droid IG-11, Cara Dune, and Greef Karga, with whom he had become reunited, Djarin fought the Remnant Empire battalion. During an attack by Imperial Death Troopers, Djarin was struck in the head by the leader of the Remnant Imperial faction, Moff Gideon. He was nearly killed in the process and only managed to survive with medical assistance from IG-11. Djarin engaged in a fierce battle with Moff Gideon and managed to kill him, apparently in his TIE fighter. However, he did not learn for the time being that Gideon had survived the crash. Djarin said goodbye to his squad after the battle was won and flew off in his ship to reunite the child with his fellow Jedi, whom he believed to be the Jedi.

In search of the child's kind, Djarin encountered Bo-Katan Kryze and other Mandalorians, whom he helped steal weapons from an Imperial freighter. Din, still searching for remaining Jedi to bring the child to, received information from Bo-Katan in return as to the whereabouts of former Jedi Knight Ahsoka Tano. On the planet Corvus, Djarin met Ahsoka Tano, who told him his life story so far, as well as that the child's name was Grogu. On the "Seeing Stone" on the planet Tython, Djarin placed Grogu to let him contact other Jedi. He then realized shortly thereafter that he had been followed by bounty hunters Boba Fett and Fennec Shand in Slave I, as Djarin had received the bounty hunter's armor from Marshal Cobb Vanth shortly before on Tatooine. Boba Fett took back his armor and helped Djarin fight off Moff Gideon's attacking forces. He had to watch as the Razor Crest was destroyed and the Imperial dark forces managed to kidnap Grogu, in a moment of inattention. Together with the criminal Mayfeld, Djarin infiltrated an Imperial mining center disguised as a stormtrooper, where he was able to obtain information on the whereabouts of Gideon's cruiser. During the rescue mission on the Moff's Star Destroyer, he engaged in a duel with the Moff, armed with the Mandalorian Darksword, in which he was able to gain the upper hand against Gideon. This automatically made Djarin the rightful owner of the sword, which brought him into conflict with Bo-Katan. However, this conflict was abruptly interrupted when Jedi Master Luke Skywalker appeared on the ship to take Grogu under his wing, whose call he had heard on Tython. Din bid Grogu farewell, removing his helmet for the first time in front of him and showing his face to the child.

Din Djarin always strictly adhered to the Mandalorian Code, and thus never removed his helmet in the presence of other people or creatures. However, after being severely injured in the head by Moff Gideon in combat, he had to reluctantly violate his principles for a short time in order to receive medical attention. However, he had not violated the Mandalorian Code, as the droid was not a living being. When Bo-Katan Kryze and her Mandalorians removed their helmets in front of Djarin, he pretended to be astonished and learned from her that he was a child of the Watch and thus radical representatives of the Way of the Mand'alore. It was only when Grogu's life was at stake that Din decided to break his code and took off his helmet to have his face scanned by an Imperial terminal. Later at the appearance of Luke Skywalker and the subsequent farewell to Grogu, he did so again for a gesture of farewell.

In The Mandalorian, Din Djarin is played by Pedro Pascal. In the German dubbed version, he is voiced by Sascha Rotermund.

Ezra Bridger

Performances:

  • Series: Rebels

Ezra Bridger (b. 19 VSY on Lothal; missing 1 VSY) was a 14-year-old orphan boy growing up on the planet Lothal. He possessed high Force potential, which was noticed by Jedi Kanan Jarrus, who had survived Order 66, right when they first met. Ezra became part of Kanan's crew and his Padawan. As a Force-gifted member of a Rebel cell, he quickly came to the attention of the Empire, who set an Inquisitor specializing in Jedi hunting on him and his Master.

Since the Inquisitors could neither defeat Ezra nor stop the rebel movement, Grand Admiral Thrawn was tasked with crushing the rebellion. In fact, he was able to drive the rebels from their base on Atollon. On Lothal, Ezra and Sabine Wren were able to steal the flight recorder of a new type of TIE defense fighter and deliver it to the Rebel Alliance. After Kanan's death, Ezra led the final assault on the Imperial headquarters in Lothal's capital. With Grand Admiral Thrawn threatening to destroy the entire city, Ezra confronted him on his flagship, the Chimaera as the Purrgils, alien space whales, pulled the ship into hyperspace. Since then, Ezra has been presumed missing.

In the original Ezra is spoken by Taylor Gray, in the German version by Konrad Bösherz.

Garazeb Orrelios

Performances:

  • Series: Rebels

Garazeb "Zeb" Orrelios (b. 44 VSY on Lasan) was a member of the Honor Guard on his home planet of Lasan, and later became part of the crew of the Ghost that resisted the Galactic Empire.

Zeb is based on the early concepts of Ralph McQuarrie.

In the original version Zeb is voiced by Steve Blum, in the German version by Oliver Siebeck.

Grogu

Appearances: Series: The Mandalorian

Grogu (unofficially: "Baby Yoda") was a Force-sensitive being of an unknown species. He grew up in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant and was trained in the Jedi teachings there for years. Shortly before the end of the Clone Wars, he was taken to safety from Order 66.

After the fall of the Galactic Empire, Grogu, who was about 50 years old, became a target of the remnant Imperials. The Imperials placed a large bounty on his head. The bounty hunter Din Djarin found Grogu and delivered it to the Empire for the time being, where he had to endure several medical examinations. Din Djarin got a guilty conscience and freed Grogu from the clutches of the Empire. From then on, he constantly accompanied the bounty hunter on his travels across the galaxy. In many situations, Grogu was able to avert danger through the Force.

Former Jedi Knight Ahsoka Tano refused to instruct Grogu, fearing he would fall to the dark side due to his now close bond with Djarin. On the planet Tython - an ancient Jedi site - Din Djarin placed Grogu on the "Seeing Stone," from which he began an intense meditation to reach out to surviving Jedi anywhere in the galaxy. As Din Djarin was engaged in battle alongside Boba Fett and Fennec Shand against Stormtroopers, the latter could do nothing to prevent Grogu from being kidnapped by Imperial dark forces shortly thereafter and taken to Moff Gideon's ship. Shortly after, however, the Mandalorian was able to free Grogu after a duel against Moff Gideon. Jedi Master Luke Skywalker, having heard Grogu's cry of the Force on Tython, appeared on the cruiser and, after bidding farewell to Din Djarin, took him with him.

Grogu is a being that belongs to the same unknown species as Jedi Master Yoda. He is therefore unofficially called Baby Yoda by fans. After the release of the first episode of The Mandalorian, a real hype and meme cult developed around Baby Yoda.

Hera Syndulla

Performances:

  • Series: Rebels, The Powers That Be...

Hera Syndulla (* 29 VSY on Ryloth) was a Twi'lek who lived during the time of the Imperial government. She was the owner and pilot of the Ghost and fought with her crew against the Empire. Unlike Sabine Wren, a member of the crew, her appearance was not a priority for her, so she wore more utilitarian clothing. Hera was the daughter of Twi'lek freedom fighter Cham Syndulla and the mother of Jacen Syndulla, whose father was the Jedi Kanan Jarrus.

In the original Hera Syndulla is spoken by Vanessa Marshall, in the German version by Tanya Kahana.

Kanan Jarrus/Caleb Dume

Performances:

  • Episodes: IX (voice-over)
  • Series: The Clone Wars, Rebels, The Bad Batch...

Kanan Jarrus, born Caleb Dume, (b. 33 VSY on Coruscant; † 1 VSY on Lothal) was a Jedi and the leader of a Rebel cell on the planet Lothal. He survived Order 66 at the end of the Clone Wars while still a Padawan. Fourteen years after those events, he led a rebel cell with the pilot Hera Syndulla and also trained the orphan boy Ezra Bridger as a Jedi. He lost his sight in a battle against the former Sith Lord Maul. He died on Lothal protecting the crew of the Ghost from an explosion. Together with Hera Syndulla, he had a son named Jacen, though he was born after his death.

In the original English version Kanan is voiced by Freddie Prinze junior, in the German version by Dennis Schmidt-Foß.

Kazuda Xiono

Performances:

  • Series: Resistance

Kazuda "Kaz" Xiono (b. 14 NSY on Hosnian Prime) was the son of Senator Hamato Xiono and a pilot for the New Republic. During the Cold War with the First Order, he was assigned by Resistance fighter Poe Dameron to go undercover as a mechanic on the Colossus refueling station and investigate as a spy against the First Order. In the process, he becomes a member of Jarek Yeager's mechanic team and befriends most of the inhabitants of Colossus. During his investigation, he finds out, among other things, that the leader of Colossus is a member of the First Order, and that the First Order is kidnapping children and secretly exterminating races.

Kazuda is voiced by Christopher Sean in the original and Patrick Keller in the German version.

Cloning unit 99

  • Series: The Clone Wars, The Bad Batch

Experimental Clone Unit 99, also known as the Bad Batch, is a team made up mostly of genetically different clone troopers. The group consists of elite soldiers Wrecker, Tech, Echo, Crosshair and Sergeant Hunter, who fought for the Galactic Republic in the Clone Wars alongside the Jedi. Echo is actually a normal clone modified by separatist experiments. Later after the proclamation of the Galactic Empire and the Emperor's rise to power, the clone unit was some of the few soldiers who were able to resist Order 66's order to kill all Jedi through their specific mutations (in Echo's case, modification). Upon the unit's return to their homeworld of Kamino, they refused the command of their new commander Wilhuff Tarkin to kill defenseless civilians. Hunted by the Empire, the unit eventually fled, with the exception of Crosshair, who had now sworn allegiance to the Empire, accompanied by the girl Omega.

In The Clone Wars and The Bad Batch, all members of Clone Unit 99 are voiced by Dee Bradley Baker in the original, and Martin Keßler in the German dub.

Sabine Wren

Performances:

  • Series: Rebels, The Powers That Be...

Sabine Wren (b. 21 VSY on Krownest) was a Mandalorian living during the time of the Galactic Empire. On her home planet of Mandalore, she attended the Imperial Academy as a teenager, but joined the crew of the freighter Ghost at the age of 16 and was instrumental in the liberation of Lothal.

After the Battle of Endor, she and Ahsoka Tano went in search of the missing Ezra Bridger.

In the original English version Sabine is voiced by Tiya Sircar, in the German version by Nicole Hannak.

Antagonists

Darth Vader

Armitage Hux

Performances:

  • Episodes: VII, VIII, IX
  • Series: Resistance

General Armitage Hux (b. ca. 0 VSY on Arkanis; † 35 NSY on the Steadfast above Kijimi) was a senior First Order general under whose command Starkiller Base was located. Along with Captain Phasma, he oversaw the training of the stormtroopers.

In 34 NSY, Hux oversaw the mission to locate the whereabouts of the last surviving Jedi, Luke Skywalker. He was later ordered by Leader Snoke to destroy the worlds of the New Republic with the Starkiller Base superweapon. On that day, he gave a historic speech to the First Order army and had the planets of the Hosnian system wiped out. During the Resistance attack and subsequent destruction of Starkiller Base, he fled the colliding planet with Kylo Ren, who was injured in the battle. Hux returned to his flagship Finalizer and shortly thereafter launched an attack on the planet D'Qar, where the Resistance had established its base. Hux coordinated the battle against the Resistance fleet and began tracking the surviving Resistance through space for an extended period of time. Working alongside the new leader of the First Order, Kylo Ren, in pursuit of the Resistance, who were holed up in an old Rebel base on the mineral world of Crait.

As Kylo Ren took command of the First Order after Snoke's death, General Hux increasingly turned away from First Order ideology and shed his former goal of victory. Hux now secretly began passing information to the Resistance, seeing no future for the First Order under Ren and his later pact with Emperor Palpatine. From then on, he focused solely on hindering his rival's work and sabotaging his cause.

Hux eventually became a spy in 35 NSY and broke the news of Palpatine's return to the Resistance. However, Honorary General Pryde found out his secret after he helped Finn, Chewbacca and Poe Dameron escape from a First Order Star Destroyer, and killed the latter for his treachery.

Hux has always had a strained relationship with Kylo Ren. When the First Order was under Snoke's command, Hux and Ren often fought for the Supreme Leader's favor, trying to weaken each other through taunts and feuds. Hux knew of Kylo Ren's belief that Snoke would have been better off creating clone troopers as First Order soldiers to avoid desertions. Thus, he was severely offended every time Ren doubted the Stormtroopers' abilities. Shortly after finding his archrival, who had previously killed Snoke, unconscious in the throne room on the Supremacy, Hux briefly toyed with the idea of killing Kylo Ren. But Ren woke up before Hux could pull out his blaster.

Armitage Hux is played by Domhnall Gleeson in Episodes VII- IX and dubbed by Sebastian Schulz in the German version.

Darth Maul

Performances:

  • Episodes: I
  • Anthology: Solo
  • Series: The Clone Wars, Rebels

Darth Maul (* 54 VSY on Dathomir; † 2 VSY on Tatooine), later just Maul, was a Sith as the apprentice of Darth Sidious and later a feared criminal as the leader of Crimson Dawn. The Zabrak from the planet Dathomir was tasked with ensuring the success of the blockade of Naboo. He was to kill Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi and get the Queen of Naboo to sign the Trade Federation treaty that legitimized the blockade. In the recapture of the Theed Palace, he confronted them and managed to separate the two Jedi during the battle, giving him a decisive advantage. He was able to mortally wound Qui-Gon Jinn in the duel, but was subsequently defeated in turn by Obi-Wan and presumed dead by the Jedi after falling down a shaft.

Maul survived Obi-Wan's fatal attack, however, and was rescued by a serpent-like creature who provided him with a mechanical abdomen, similar to a spider, and took him to the planet Lotho Minor. However, Maul fell into madness and lived there underground until his clan brother Savage Opress came upon his trail and cured him of his confusion via clan mother Talzin. It turns out that despite his mental derangement, Maul had never forgotten the thought of revenge against Obi-Wan Kenobi and now sought to join his clan brother in exacting retribution against the Jedi. To get revenge on Obi-Wan, he killed, among others, Obi-Wan's great love Satine Kryze, the Duchess of Mandalore, in front of him. Eventually, Savage was killed by Darth Sidious, who had heard of Maul's survival, and Maul was tortured by him. After being freed by a Mandalorian group, he fought the Separatists again. Among other things, he succeeded in capturing General Grievous and restoring Mother Talzin to a solid body, but Grievous was freed by Dooku and Mother Talzin was killed again.

Maul escaped and went on to build his own crime syndicate called Crimson Dawn. Along with the gangster Dryden Vos and his close associate Qi'ra, he was responsible for numerous crimes across the galaxy. After Qi'ra killed Dryden Vos following several escalating events, Maul asked her to join him in Dathomir.

Furthermore, Maul dealt with the knowledge of the Sith. When he visited the ancient planet Malachor (presumably to find a Sith holocron), his ship crashed and he was stuck there. The Empire, by now proclaimed by Darth Sidious, was able to track his trail to there; an Inquisitor with the alias Eighth Brother was ordered there to search for Maul. Five years before the Battle of Yavin, Maul met the Jedi Padawan Ezra Bridger, who had come there with Kanan Jarrus and Ahsoka Tano, and attempted to make him his apprentice and, with his help, obtain the knowledge from the Holocron. He managed to blind Kanan Jarrus, but was still stopped by him. After the temple on Malachor was destroyed, Maul escaped on an Inquisitor's ship. In the aftermath, his goal was to track down and kill his old mortal enemy Obi-Wan Kenobi. After confronting the latter on Tatooine, he was mortally wounded by Kenobi after a brief battle and died in his arms, knowing that Anakin Skywalker was the chosen one who would bring balance to the Force.

The actor Ray Park was chosen for the role of Darth Maul because of his skills as a swordsman and stuntman. However, his vocal abilities were not sufficient for his role. This was mainly due to his pronounced Scottish accent. Maul's voice was therefore spoken by British actor Peter Serafinowicz in the original English-language version, but Maul only speaks a few sentences throughout the film. In the animated series The Clone Wars and Rebels, however, Sam Witwer lends the character's voice. The duo of Park and Witwer embodied Maul in the 2018 film Solo: A Star Wars Story, as well as in the final season of The Clone Wars via motion capture for Park.

Ben Solo/Kylo Ren

Performances:

  • Episodes: VII, VIII, IX
  • Series: Rebels (voice), Star Wars Resistance

Kylo Ren (* 5 NSY as Ben Solo on Chandrila; † 35 NSY on Exegol) was the son of Han Solo and Leia Organa. In early adulthood, he began his Jedi training under his uncle Luke Skywalker at his academy. During this training, young Ben began to hear voices in his head more and more often, trying to seduce him to the dark side. All these voices turned out to be a plan by Emperor Palpatine many years later. Manipulated by these voices and a belief in his grandfather Anakin Skywalker's legacy, Ben eventually fell to the dark side and became the apprentice of Supreme Leader Snoke. Ben became the master of the Knights of Ren and henceforth called himself Kylo Ren.

Kylo became commander of the First Order and made it his goal to kill his former master Luke Skywalker and thus wipe out the Jedi Order. Just like the Resistance, led by his mother, he searched for Skywalker, who had retreated to the unknown parts of the galaxy after Ben's betrayal. That's how he learned of a map that was supposed to lead to the Jedi, but was in the hands of the Resistance. Despite capturing and interrogating Poe Dameron and Rey, he was unable to track down the map. When the Resistance launched an attack on the First Order's Starkiller base, he encountered his father again, who wanted to take him back to the Light Side. Kylo killed him after an internal conflict with his lightsaber and was severely injured in the ensuing battle between Rey and him. He was able to escape from the slowly imploding base, while Rey and the deserted stormtrooper Finn escaped with Solo's co-pilot Chewbacca. After Kylo Ren was reprimanded for his failure aboard the Supremacy, his master Snoke's flagship, and realized he had killed his father for nothing, he developed a chronic hatred for his master and destroyed his helmet in a fit of rage. Later, in his TIE Silencer, he led the fleet's attack against the fleeing Resistance ships. In the aftermath, he noticed a Force bond with Rey, who confronted him aboard the Supremacy a short time later, hoping to convert him to the Light Side. Kylo Ren brought her to his master, who claimed responsibility for the Force Bond, to test his apprentice and his apprentice's loyalty. Snoke ordered him to kill Rey, whereupon he instead betrayed and killed his master and appointed himself the new Supreme Leader. Along with Rey, he defeated Snoke's bodyguards, but did not join her. At Kylo's command, the First Order forces attacked Crait, where the Resistance survivors were hiding. During the battle, Kylo Ren confronted his former master Luke Skywalker, but soon realized that he was merely using Force projection to stand in his way while he himself was on Ahch-To. Kylo was thus unable to defeat Skywalker, who subsequently became one with the Force. This bought the Resistance enough time to leave the planet in time, along with Rey. During the Resistance's escape, Kylo experienced another Force connection with Rey, despite Snoke's death.

A year later, Kylo Ren became aware of the mysterious radio message from the Emperor, who was presumed dead, and came into possession of a Sith Wayfinder on the planet Mustafar in the ruins of his grandfather's former fortress. With the help of the pathfinder, Kylo Ren was able to locate the secret Sith world of Exegol in the Unknown Regions. In a Sith citadel, Kylo met the weakened Emperor Palpatine, who revealed to him that he had been responsible for renouncing the Light Side all along, and that he had created Snoke in order to gain new political and military power through him. Kylo was offered command of the Emperor's Sith fleet by Palpatine for killing Rey, who was the Emperor's granddaughter. Just before the search for Rey began, Kylo had the Sith alchemist Albrekh repair his destroyed helmet. When he was able to discover her whereabouts through another Force connection, in which he was able to interfere with Rey's surroundings for the first time through the Force, he made his way to the Forbidden Desert of Pasaana. There, through a maneuver with his TIE Whisperer and a battle with the Force over a transporter flying away, he got Rey to unleash the dark side in her. Kylo went through some more Force bonding with Rey and enlightened her about her true origins on the Steadfast. After following Rey to Kef Bir into the wreckage of the old Death Star and destroying the wayfinder from the Emperor's vault, his mother Leia Organa Force-linked with her son and Rey was able to stab him with his own lightsaber. Via Force healing, Kylo was healed of his life-threatening injuries by Rey and found his way back to the light side of the Force after a reminder of his father, Han Solo.

Back as Jedi Ben Solo, he rushed to Rey's aid on Exegol in an old TIE fighter from the ruins of the Death Star, where he first learned that his Knights of Ren had also been lackeys of the Emperor all this time and had acted in his will. In a subsequent battle, Ben was able to defeat all of the Knights with his grandfather's lightsaber, which had been handed to him by Rey across the Force. From Palpatine, Ben learned that he and Rey formed a dyad - and thus a dyad in the Force, through which the weakened Emperor could regain his strength. Ben was thrown into an abyss by Palpatine shortly after he regained his old form through the dyad of him and Rey, but was able to intercept himself with the Force. After Rey finally destroyed Emperor Palpatine in a duel and was killed by a heavy shockwave, Ben Solo transferred his last life energy into her and eventually died after sharing one last kiss with Rey.

Kylo Ren was portrayed by Adam Driver in Episodes VII-IX. His German voice is Julien Haggège. For his role as Kylo Ren, Adam Driver was honored as Best Supporting Actor at the 2016 Saturn Awards.

Boba Fett

  • Episodes: II, IV, V, VI
  • Series: The Clone Wars, The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett...

Boba Fett (* 32 VSY on Kamino) was one of the best and most successful bounty hunters in the galaxy. He was a clone of the bounty hunter Jango Fett, who donated his genetic material for the production of clone soldiers. Unlike his clone brethren, Boba was not subjected to a growth process accelerated by chemical agents, but instead was required by Jango in return for his services, alongside his fee, so that he could raise him as a son and heir. Boba was born on Kamino, a planet mostly covered in water.

At the beginning of the Clone Wars, Boba Fett was forced to watch Jedi Master Mace Windu decapitate his father in the Arena of Justice during the Battle of Geonosis as a boy.

After Jango's death, the bounty hunter Aurra Sing took Boba in to help him avenge his father's murder. When the assassination attempt on Mace Windu failed, she left Boba behind, who was imprisoned in a Republic prison. After being released from prison, Boba began his professional career as a bounty hunter during the still ongoing Clone Wars. His work as a bounty hunter was not very successful at the time.

After the Clone Wars, he rose to become one of the most successful bounty hunters, in constant competition with Bossk. On behalf of the Empire, he managed to use his ship Slave I to track the Millennium Falcon to Bespin. As a reward, he received Han Solo, frozen in carbonite, whom he delivered to Jabba the Hutt in exchange for the bounty placed on his head. Solo, however, was freed by Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa. In the battle between Jabba's guards and the fugitives, Boba fell into the Pit of Carkoon, where he was engulfed by a Sarlacc. However, Boba was able to escape from the Sarlacc and began a new life on Tatooine. Boba lost his Beskar armor, which his father Jango had also once worn, and learned that it had been appropriated by Marshal Cobb Vanth.

A few years after the fall of the Empire, he saved the life of bounty hunter Fennec Shand and pursued the Mandalorian Din Djarin, who had been given his armor by Vanth. He and Fennec, who was now in his debt, pursued Djarin on the Slave I to Tython, where Boba retrieved his armor. Boba and Din Djarin were able to come to an agreement, but were surprised by Moff Gideon's Remnant Empire forces. During a battle, Gideon's dark forces kidnapped the Force-sensitive child Grogu, who belonged to Djarin. Boba and Fennec promised Din Djarin they would help him retrieve the child. After helping Din Djarin and his team infiltrate Moff Gideon's ship, he and Fennec Shand headed back to Tatooine to the old palace of Jabba the Hutt, for whom he had once worked. There, he killed Bib Fortuna, who had taken Jabba's place, and ascended the throne from which the Hutt had once ruled his crime organization.

In the films, Boba Fett is portrayed in his various ages by Daniel Logan and Jeremy Bulloch. In The Mandalorian and the upcoming series The Book of Boba Fett (2021), he is played by Temuera Morrison, who previously portrayed Jango Fett and various clone troopers in the prequel trilogy.

Count Dooku/Darth Tyranus

Performances:

  • Episodes: II, III
  • Series: The Clone Wars

Count Dooku of Serenno, a.k.a. Darth Tyranus, (b. 102 VSY on Serenno; † 19 VSY on the Invisible Hand above Coruscant) was a Jedi Knight and the master of Qui-Gon Jinn. Dooku was the son of Count Gora and Countess Anya. He was also the big brother of Ramil and Jenza. As a young child he was taken to the Jedi Temple, there he was trained by Yoda. After the death of his student Qui-Gon Jinn, he turned away from the Jedi and fell to the dark side of the Force and became the student of the Sith Lord Darth Sidious as Darth Tyranus.

Tyranus convinced several powerful corporations to turn against the Republic. He ordered the production of a large number of battle droids and led the forces of the Confederation of Independent Star Systems into battle against the Republic. His master Darth Sidious, in the identity of Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, intended to use the resulting civil war as an opportunity to grant himself emergency powers and create a clone army. In the Clone Wars that followed, Tyranus grated on both parties so that Sidious' rise to power would seem like a redemption. After the Battle of Geonosis, Darth Tyranus engaged Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi in battle, in which he gained the upper hand. He cut off Anakin's right forearm and incapacitated the Jedi. However, he could not hold his own against his old master Yoda, who intervened in the fight, and fled. During the Battle of Coruscant, Tyranus again encountered Obi-Wan and Anakin, but was defeated by Anakin after wounding Obi-Wan. Tyranus was then beheaded by Anakin Skywalker on the orders of Chancellor Palpatine. This was to lead Anakin to the dark side, as Sidious had intended him to be his new apprentice.

Tyranus is one of the most powerful and wise Sith Lords in the saga. Through his connection to the dark side of the Force, he was able to learn many intricate Force techniques that were almost equal to Yoda's abilities. In addition, he cultivated a lightsaber style of fighting man to man. This made him superior to most Jedi, whose style focused on fighting blasters of soldiers.

Darth Tyranus is the main antagonist in Episode II and made a cameo appearance in Episode III. In both films, he was portrayed by British actor Christopher Lee, who enjoys cult status for his portrayals of villains, even beyond his death in 2015. In German, Tyranus was dubbed by Klaus Sonnenschein.

Dryden Vos

Performances:

  • Anthology: Solo
  • Series: The Clone Wars

Dryden Vos († 10 VSY on the First Light on Savareen) was the head of the criminal crime syndicate Crimson Dawn and under the orders of former Sith Lord Maul, represented the public face of the syndicate.

Having clashed often over the years with the Sky Dogs - a pirate gang led by Enfys Nest - Vos saw the pirate and her followers as a major nuisance to Crimson Dawn. In 10 VSY, he hired the crew of gangster Tobias Beckett for a job stealing refined coaxium fuel from an Empire freight train. When that heist failed, Vos gave his workers one last chance and sent his associate Qi'ra, with whom Vos had a close relationship, on another heist with Tobias Beckett, Han Solo, and the Wookie Chewbacca. After that coup, Dryden Vos was betrayed by Tobias Beckett on Savareen, who disappeared with the stolen coaxium. Earlier, Vos had learned through Beckett that Han Solo planned to deliver the coaxium to Enfys Nest. Because of the common past with Han Solo and the goal to get the command of Crimson Dawn, Qi'ra also turned against Dryden Vos a little later and killed him in a duel.

In Solo: A Star Wars Story, Dryden Vos is portrayed by Paul Bettany and his German dubbing voice is Timmo Niesner. In pre-production of the film, the role was first planned as an alien reminiscent of a lion and was to be played by Michael K. Williams. When directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord, who were originally hired to helm the project, had to leave the production due to creative differences with the studios and Ron Howard took over as director, it was eventually decided to go with a different look and awarded the role to Bettany. The scar-like smears on the character's face were created entirely in the computer for the film.

Enric Pryde

Performances:

  • Episodes: IX

Honorary General Enric Pryde (b. 27 VSY; † 35 NSY on the Steadfast via Exegol) was born on Alsakan and entered the Imperial Academy of his home planet at the age of 16. He was stationed on the Star Destroyer Steadfast and rose to commander after only a few years. Pryde sometimes fought in the Battle of Jakku, during which his ship was destroyed.

After the fall of the Galactic Empire, Pryde joined the First Order and was given command of the military's reserve forces by Snoke. He was assigned a new Star Destroyer-class battleship and christened it Steadfast in homage to his old ship.

After Snoke's death, the new Supreme Leader, Kylo Ren, discovered the Reserve forces and recruited them into his service. Pryde killed General Hux after he passed secret messages to the Resistance as a spy and joined the Last Order under Emperor Palpatine shortly after Kylo Ren also renounced the First Order. Still loyal to his old ruler as a veteran of the Empire, Pryde formed the First and Last Orders into an alliance and took command of the fleet at the Battle of Exegol. Shortly after the Emperor's death, Pryde was killed aboard his ship in battle.

General Pryde was one of the few officers who had guessed early on that even Supreme Leader Snoke was only serving as a stooge for a higher power - in this case, Emperor Palpatine.

In Episode IX, General Pryde is played by Richard E. Grant and dubbed by Hans Bayer in the German version.

The rank of Allegiant General is translated as Werter General in the German dubbed version, whereas it is referred to as General First Class in the illustrated encyclopedia for the film. In the novel to the film, it is again titled Honorary General. Richard E. Grant was initially withheld from auditioning for a Star Wars movie, and he had to mime the role of a 1940s British general during his audition. It wasn't until later that he was told by director J.J. Abrams what he was really auditioning for. According to Grant himself, he was inspired for his role by the character of Wilhuff Tarkin from Episode IV, played by Peter Cushing.

Admiral Thrawn

Performances:

  • Series: Rebels

Canon: Mitth'raw'nuruodo (missing 1 VSY), better known by his core name of Thrawn, was a Grand Admiral of the Galactic Empire tasked with crushing the Phoenix Rebel Cell. He succeeded in tracking down and capturing their base on Atollon. The Phoenix squadron escaped only with heavy losses. On Lothal he supervised the TIE defense fighter project. Meanwhile, Ezra Bridger and Sabine Wren managed to steal a flight recorder and deliver it to the Rebel Alliance. However, he was able to fend off an attack on the factories. To prevent the Rebels from escaping, Governor Pryce had the fuel depot destroyed. In the process, Jedi Knight Kanan Jarrus was killed and the project had to be halted. When the Rebels attacked Imperial headquarters, Thrawn threatened to destroy the capital if Ezra did not turn himself in. During the confrontation on his flagship, the Chimaera, the Purrgils, alien space whales appeared, severely damaging it and dragging it into hyperspace. Since then, Thrawn was thought to be missing.

In the times of the New Republic the former Jedi Ahsoka Tano searched for him on the planet Corvus to track down his apprentice Morgan Elsbeth to find out from her where her Master was.

Thrawn is a Chiss. His appearance is humanoid, with blue skin and black hair. Striking are his eyes, which have no iris or pupil, but always glow red. In the original Star Wars Rebels, Thrawn is voiced by Lars Mikkelsen, in the German version by Thomas Nero Wolff, who previously voiced him in the German audio dramas of the Thrawn trilogy.

Legends: Thrawn was originally created by novelist Timothy Zahn. In his Thrawn trilogy (Heirs to the Empire, The Dark Side of the Force, The Last Command) of the discarded Legends universe, Thrawn returns from the Unknown Regions of the galaxy five years after the death of the Emperor in Episode VI to assume leadership of the remnants of the already badly decayed Empire. He succeeds, through his tactical and strategic genius, in severely pressuring the now-emerging New Republic and restoring the Empire to strength. Ultimately, however, he is stabbed to death by one of his enslaved bodyguards.

As part of the new continuity by Disney/Lucasfilm, which removed the Thrawn trilogy from canon, a canonical novel for the character, Thrawn, was released in 2017.

Jabba the Hutt

Performances:

  • Episodes: I, IV, VI
  • Series: The Clone Wars

Jabba Desilijic Tiure (known as Jabba the Hutt, also just Jabba) (* 600 VSY on Nal Hutta; † 4 NSY on Tatooine) was the leader of a criminal organization based on the desert planet Tatooine. He belonged to the Hutt race, which is notable for its reptilian body shape, obesity, resistance to poisons and most diseases, and extreme longevity (approximately 1000 years). Jabba the Hutt also had a son named Rotta. This one was rescued from the Separatists by the Jedi Anakin Skywalker and Obi Wan Kenobi. In return - and because they had exposed the traitor Zero the Hutt - the Hutt clan joined the Republic until the rise of the Empire.

During the Galactic Civil War, he entrusted a shipment to smuggler Han Solo, but the smuggler had to abandon it due to Imperial fighters. Since this left Han in debt, Jabba put a bounty on his head. After the bounty hunter Greedo was shot by Han, Boba Fett managed to track down the smuggler. Han Solo, who was frozen in carbonite, was taken to Jabba's palace. However, there he was freed by Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa. During their escape, Jabba was strangled by Leia with a chain.

Jabba appears in Episode I and IV (in the digitally remastered version) and VI with the now familiar appearance. His figure is computer animated in Episode I and IV. A puppet was used in Episode VI. The scenes in Episode IV were originally shot with an actor, but were cut from the film in this form until the Special Edition was released in 1997 with a digitally inserted Jabba. His name is derived from the Russian Жаба for toad.

Moff Gideon

Performances:

  • Series: The Mandalorian

Gideon was, for the time being, a Moff of the Empire during the Civil War against the Rebel Alliance and an agent of Imperial Intelligence (ISB). After the fall of the Galactic Empire and the rise of the New Republic, Gideon ruled over an entire territory that he had made his own. Fighting alongside him were surviving Imperial stormtroopers. During the Empire era, Gideon was instrumental in a genocide against the Mandalorian people. During this crime, he acquired the Mandalorian darksword, which he carried as a weapon from then on.

In 9 NSY, Gideon encountered the bounty hunter Din Djarin, who had the Force-sensitive child Grogu at his side, for whom the last Imperials were searching. Under Gideon's command, a hunt began for the bounty hunter and the kidnapped child. By planting a homing beacon, Gideon and his followers managed to track down Djarin and his crew. After a siege by his forces, Gideon personally opened battle to the bounty hunter with his TIE fighter. Gideon lost this fight in the air and crashed his fighter. However, the Moff was able to survive and cut his way free with the help of the dark sword.

Aboard his starcruiser, Gideon continued to work with Imperial scientist Dr. Pershing on a secret plan, relentlessly pursuing the child he needed as a donor for his experiment. On the planet Tython, Gideon finally succeeded in capturing the child and destroying the Razor Crest through the first use of his Dark Forces - a special elite unit of Imperial soldiers. Gideon received a threatening message from the Mandalorian shortly thereafter, announcing that he would retrieve Grogu. Gideon confronted Djarin in the child's cell with the darksword and engaged him in a duel. The Mandalorian was able to gain the upper hand and disarmed Gideon. A prisoner of Din Djarin's rescue party, Gideon shortly thereafter witnessed Jedi Master Luke Skywalker appear on the ship and take the child with him.

In The Mandalorian, Moff Gideon is played by Giancarlo Esposito. In German, he is dubbed by Frank Röh. For his performance in the first season finale, Esposito was nominated for an Emmy in the category Outstanding Guest Actor In A Drama Series.

Sheev Palpatine/Darth Sidious

Appearances as Palpatine and Darth Sidious:

  • Episodes: I , II , III
  • Series: The Clone Wars

Performances as Emperor:

  • Episodes: III , V , VI , IX
  • Series: Rebels, The Bad Batch

Sheev Palpatine (b. 84 VSY on Naboo; † 4 NSY on the second Death Star over Endor, ? NSY revived; † 35 NSY on Exegol) was a senator from his home planet of Naboo. He excelled in political skills, which eventually helped him to the highest office in the Galactic Senate. At an early age, he was introduced to the teachings of the Sith by his master, Darth Plagueis, and grew into a powerful Sith Lord named Darth Sidious. As a politician and chancellor, he influenced the Republic for his own purposes. Sidious appointed himself Emperor of the Galactic Empire and ruled over the Galactic Empire for over 30 years after carrying out his plan. Some three decades after the fall of his empire, Darth Sidious, previously thought dead, turned out to be the string-puller of the newly ascended First Order and its leader Snoke. In secret, Sidious set up a new plan to help the Order of the Sith regain absolute dominance.

Sidious allied with the Trade Federation in 32 VSY to blockade the peaceful planet of Naboo, Senator Amidala's home planet, ostensibly in protest over increasing taxation by the Senate. The blockade failed, however Sidious used the resulting political turmoil to ascend to the position of Supreme Chancellor of the Republic as Senator Palpatine. As Darth Sidious, he led the military uprising of the Separatist movement with the help of Darth Tyranus, a renegade Jedi and Sith disciple. This challenged the Republic, and Palpatine had extraordinary powers granted to him by resolution of the Senate. With these, he was able to order the deployment of a large clone army originally commissioned by his disciple, which was the beginning of what became known as the Clone Wars.

Sidious seduced the Jedi Anakin Skywalker to the dark side of the Force and gave him the name Darth Vader. He appointed him his apprentice and gave him the order to liquidate all Jedi and the leadership of the Separatists. This purge, called Order 66, was survived by only a few Jedi such as Anakin's master Obi-Wan Kenobi, Grandmaster Yoda, Kanan Jarrus, and Anakin's former Padawan Ahsoka Tano. After Darth Vader seemingly succeeded in this mission, Sidious transformed the Republic into the first Galactic Empire and appointed himself Emperor. From this point on, he appeared only in his signature Sith robes and ruled as an absolutist ruler through repressive means. After the completion of the Death Star, a huge, armed space station with enormous firepower, he dissolved the Senate and took all decision-making power away from the planets under his control. Darth Sidious' attempt to also lead Darth Vader's son, Luke Skywalker, to the dark side failed. When he tried to kill Luke, Vader saved his son and threw the Emperor into the reactor shaft of the second Death Star. During the fall into the shaft, Sidious transferred his mind into a clone body he had prepared on the Sith world Exegol, however he died for the time being.

Sidious eventually managed to cheat death and live on in one of his prefabricated clone bodies. On Exegol, he had been building a massive fleet of Star Destroyers for several years as a backup plan to restore the Order of the Sith to its former strength. In the course of this, Sidious created the dark Force user Snoke and through him was able to influence the First Order's rise to power and the renegade Jedi Kylo Ren. A failed and genetically altered clone of himself created a family and had a daughter, who later had to be hidden from Sidious on the planet Jakku, as he saw his granddaughter Rey Palpatine as a valuable tool for his plans. He was officially presumed dead by the galaxy.

A year after the Battle of Crait, Sidious sent a threatening radio message across the galaxy to lure Kylo Ren to him. He revealed the truth about Rey to Kylo Ren and offered him dominion over his Sith Empire in exchange for killing his granddaughter, who had become a Jedi under the training of the Skywalker twins. With the help of Honorary General Pryde, a former loyalist of the Emperor, Sidious eventually formed the First Order and his completed fleet into a single unit and began raiding numerous planets across the galaxy. On Exegol, he was finally sought out by his granddaughter Rey, to whom Sidious offered the throne of the Sith as the new Empress, asking her to strike him down in an ancient occult ritual to host his spirit within her, ensuring all Sith would live on. However, Rey, along with Kylo Ren, now back as Ben Solo, turned on Sidious, whereupon he accidentally found that Rey and Ben Solo formed a dyad in the Force, allowing Sidious to return to his old power. Sidious discarded his original plan and regained his old form and strength by testifying to Rey and Ben's life energy. With a huge volley of Force bolts, Darth Sidious was able to take out much of the attacking Rebel fleet that had found their way to Exegol through Rey. In a final duel, Sidious fought his granddaughter Rey, who had now been rendered useless to him and his plan by his newfound power. In this final battle, Darth Sidious was finally destroyed by Rey, who had gained new strength through the spiritual help of all the deceased Jedi.

Darth Sidious was portrayed by Ian McDiarmid in the original versions of all films except Episode V; in the theatrical version of Episode V, this was done by Marjorie Eaton (and in makeup tests, by Elaine Baker), with Clive Revill doing the dubbing. To alienate the Emperor's face, chimpanzee eyes were copied over the actress' eyes. For the 2004 DVD release, these scenes were then replaced with newly shot footage featuring McDiarmid.

The German dubbing was done by Friedhelm Ptok, only in Episode VI Helmut Heyne spoke the role. In English, he is dubbed by Sam Witwer in The Clone Wars and the second season of Rebels, and by Ian McDiarmid in the fourth.

Snoke

Performances:

  • Episodes: VII, VIII, IX (Voice)

Snoke (* before 19 VSY on Exegol; † 34 NSY on the Supremacy via Crait) was a powerful user of the Dark Side of the Force, created by Emperor Palpatine on the Sith world Exegol. A puppet of Palpatine, Snoke managed to rise to the position of Supreme Leader of the First Order after the fall of the Galactic Empire and, along with his apprentice Kylo Ren, devised a plan to crush the New Republic and its resistance in a new galaxy-wide conflict.

During the Jedi training of young Ben Solo, the last descendant of the Skywalker bloodline, Snoke, under the Emperor's supervision, began to influence and manipulate the boy, eventually seducing him to the dark side of the Force.

As Supreme Leader of the First Order, Snoke gave the order from his command ship Supremacy to search for the missing Jedi Master Luke Skywalker, having learned that the Resistance had also begun searching for him. As a show of force by the First Order, he ordered the New Republic worlds destroyed by Starkiller Base shortly thereafter. To finalize Kylo Ren's path to the dark side, he ordered his apprentice to assassinate his own father, Han Solo. After Snoke's apprentice killed his father, but lost in a duel against the young Rey, he was severely disappointed in Kylo Ren and reprimanded him for his failure. Only when he brought the Force-sensitive girl to his throne room on the Supremacy did he finally relent, but was betrayed and killed by his apprentice Kylo Ren. This later turned out to be a planned test by Emperor Palpatine, who wanted to see if Kylo Ren would make a worthy heir to his Sith Empire.

Snoke was portrayed by Andy Serkis using performance capture techniques. His German dubbing voice is Martin Umbach.

Orson Krennic

Performances:

  • Anthology: Rogue One

Orson Krennic (b. 51 VSY on Lexrul; † 0 VSY on Scarif) was the director of weapons research for the Imperial military, obsessed with completing the long-delayed Death Star project and being in the Emperor's good graces. He had scientist Galen Erso abducted after he escaped and completed the Death Star for himself. Erso fled when he realized he had been lied to by his one-time friend Krennic and his purely scientific research on kyber crystals misused to build the battle station weapon. Erso's daughter Jyn managed to escape him, however, and years later launched an attack on the Imperial Archives in Scarif with the Rebel Alliance to steal the plans of the Death Star, into which her father had secretly built a vulnerability. Krennic died trying to stop Jyn and Cassian from transmitting the plans when Tarkin had the Death Star and its firepower aimed directly at Imperial headquarters, ending the battle with collateral damage.

Orson Krennic is portrayed by Ben Mendelsohn in Rogue One.

Phasma

Performances:

  • Episodes: VII, VIII
  • Series: Resistance

Captain Phasma († 34 NSY on the Supremacy via Crait) was the instructor and commander of the First Order Stormtroopers. Her armor resembled that of normal stormtroopers, except hers was chrome-silver and resistant to blaster fire to a degree. Her height of just under six feet made her a feared leader and strong fighter. She was captured in the battle for the First Order's Starkiller Base by Han Solo, Chewbacca, and the deserted Stormtrooper Finn, who had served under her leadership only days before, and forced to take out the base's shields, allowing it to be destroyed by Resistance forces. She was thrown into a trash compactor by them shortly after, but survived. During the collision of the flagship Supremacy, which had been massively damaged, she managed to capture Finn and Rose Tico. However, she was subsequently overpowered by her former pupil in a duel and fell to her death.

Phasma was portrayed by Gwendoline Christie. Her German dubbing voice is Katrin Fröhlich.

The design of the figure with a chrome-silver stormtrooper armor by costume designer Michael Kaplan was first considered as a concept for the character of the antagonist Kylo Ren, but was discarded again. Director J.J. Abrams liked this concept so much that he wanted to include it in the movie. For the name Phasma Abrams was inspired by the film series The Evil of Don Coscarelli (in the original: Phantasm). The metal spheres that appear there also inspired the design of Captain Phasma's armor.

Wilhuff Tarkin

Performances:

  • Episodes: III, IV
  • Anthology: Rogue One
  • Series: The Clone Wars, Rebels, The Bad Batch...

Wilhuff Tarkin (b. 64 VSY on Eriadu; † 0 VSY on the first Death Star above Yavin IV) was the Empire's first Grand Moff and Governor of the Outer Rim of the Galaxy, making him one of its most powerful members until his death.

His career began during the Clone Wars as a captain in the Galactic Republic, during which he served under Jedi Master Even Piell. After being kidnapped and captured by the Separatists, he escaped with the help of the Jedi and some clone troopers. Piell died as a result of the rescue, while Tarkin was promoted to Admiral. He served as prosecutor in the trial of Ahsoka Tano, whom he accused of being involved in the bombing of the Jedi Temple hangar. She was acquitted of all charges.

After Supreme Chancellor Palpatine transformed the Republic into the Galactic Empire, Tarkin was appointed the first Grand Moff. Upon completion of the Death Star, he also assumed sole command of the dreaded battle station, previously held by Director Krennic. Tarkin despised the upstart Krennic and always tried to talk him and his progress down during the completion of the space station. The station's first target became the planet Jedha, whose capital was completely destroyed with only one firing sequence. However, Galen Erso, who was working under Krennic to complete the Death Star, built in a vulnerability that would allow the Rebels to destroy it. When the Rebel Alliance learned of this, a strike force attempted to steal the Death Star blueprints from the Imperial Archives on Scarif. Tarkin, aboard the Death Star, arrived in orbit of the planet only moments after Jyn Erso and Cassian Andor managed to transmit the plans. Tarkin didn't hesitate for long and had the Imperial Archive destroyed with another single reactor detonation, also killing Krennic, who tried to prevent the theft of the plans until the very end.

Tarkin firmly believed that fear of the new battle station's firepower would keep the local systems in check. After the Princess of Alderaan, Leia Organa, was arrested and taken to the Death Star as part of the search for the plans, Tarkin ordered the firing of a full reactor burn on her home planet of Alderaan. It was the first full firing of the battle station, causing billions of casualties and destroying the entire planet. After the princess was freed by Han Solo and Luke Skywalker, Tarkin tracked the fugitives' ship with a homing beacon, which led him to the planet Yavin IV, where the Rebel base was located. The Rebels were preparing to attack the Death Star, as plans of the battle station had reached the Rebels in time and the serious design flaw installed by Galen Erso had been found. When the Death Star arrived in the Yavin system, the Rebels attacked. Tarkin believed in the superiority of his station and refused to evacuate the Death Star when the Rebel attack plan was analyzed and the danger was realized. When the station was destroyed only moments before the planet was fired upon, Tarkin died.

Peter Cushing (1913-1994) portrayed Tarkin in Episode IV and was nominated for a Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actor. Wayne Pygram portrayed Tarkin in a cameo appearance lasting only a few seconds in Episode III. In Rogue One, Tarkin was portrayed by Guy Henry and adapted to Peter Cushing's appearance and facial expressions from Episode IV using motion-capture technology. In the two animated series The Clone Wars, Rebels as well as in the upcoming series The Bad Batch, Tarkin is originally voiced by Stephen Stanton. In German, Friedrich Schoenfelder dubbed Tarkin in Episode IV, and Lutz Riedel dubbed him in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. In the three animated series, Detlef Gieß lends him his voice.
