Geography and climate

Ghanzi sits within the Kalahari Basin, a semi‑arid landscape of red sands, dunes and shrubland. Much of the eastern portion of the district is occupied by the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, a vast protected area important for wildlife and seasonal waterholes. Rainfall is low and variable, with hot days and cool nights typical of the region.

The district contains several attractions frequented by tourists and researchers. Notable sites include:
