Dover MRT Station (EW22)

Design and distinguishing features

Unlike most above-ground stations on the East West Line, Dover was notable for being inserted above an existing stretch of track rather than being built as part of the original alignment. This constraint led to the station having two side platforms instead of the more common island platform arrangement. The layout places passenger access and basic facilities on a concourse level, with sheltered platforms above the running lines.

History and development

The project to add the station responded to growing local transport demand near educational institutions and new housing. The station's planning included careful phasing to allow construction over an active railway without prolonged service disruption. In planning documents it was assigned the interim code W7A; in July 2001 this was revised to the operational code EW22 shortly before opening.

Dover provides standard commuter amenities such as sheltered platforms, ticketing facilities and passenger access between street and platform levels.
