Choice Music Prize

History and origin

The prize was created in 2005 by music journalist Jim Carroll and music manager Dave Reid as a way to offer an independent, critical counterpoint to sales-driven charts and mainstream awards. The ceremony to announce the winner has most often been held at Dublin's Vicar Street, and the event typically takes place in late winter. Since 2011 the award has had commercial sponsorship from Meteor, which provided funding and promotional support.
