The building and surrounding park were developed under the influence of Agustín Ross, a financier and promoter associated with the transformation of Pichilemu into a coastal resort. In 1906 the property housed one of the earliest organized casinos in the country, which operated until the early 1930s. After the casino closed, the premises were adapted for hospitality use and served as a hotel for much of the twentieth century. In subsequent decades the site experienced changing uses and conservation challenges before being reestablished as a cultural venue serving local residents and visitors.
