Overview

James Birdseye McPherson (November 14, 1828 – July 22, 1864) was a professional soldier who rose to become a prominent major general in the Union Army. A West Point graduate and career engineer, McPherson became one of the best-regarded commanders in the Western Theater during the American Civil War.
