Braddell MRT station (NS18)

Design and layout

Unlike many underground stations that use a single island platform, Braddell was the first station on the system built with separate side platforms. This configuration places platforms on either side of the two tracks, each with direct access to the concourse. The layout was chosen to accommodate tight site constraints and existing utilities beneath the road corridor, and it influences passenger flow, boarding patterns, and station circulation.

Today the station functions as a local commuter hub on the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system, linking residents to the wider rail network. While not an interchange station, it remains important for daily travel, reducing road congestion and supporting access to nearby schools, shops and community facilities.

Operationally, stations like Braddell demonstrate how infrastructure design balances engineering, urban constraints and passenger needs. Its distinctive platform layout and role in the early network make it a small but interesting part of Singapore's rail history.
