The syndicate was founded in 1934 by industrialist Chandrashekhar Agashe, who guided the company through its formative years and served as managing director until his death in 1956. Leadership passed to his elder son, Panditrao Agashe, who served as managing director from 1956 until 1983. Thereafter, the younger son, Dnyaneshwar Agashe, took on the managing director role and later chaired the company. Since 17 December 1996 the company's managing director has been Ashutosh Agashe.
