Roberto Luongo (born April 4, 1979) is a retired Canadian hockey player best known for his long career as a professional goaltender. He spent nearly two decades in the top tier of the sport, appearing in the National Hockey League and becoming one of the most recognizable netminders of his generation.

Luongo combined size, athleticism and strong puck-handling ability to become a modern-style netminder who could control play behind the goal and help start offensive transitions. His calm positioning and reflexes earned him a reputation for consistency, and he was often counted on to shoulder heavy workloads in long stretches of a season.

After being selected in the NHL entry draft, Luongo began his professional career and established himself as an NHL starter.
