AFI's 100 Years...100 Thrills

Purpose and scope

The project examined motion pictures produced in or strongly associated with American motion-picture culture and sought titles that have influenced popular perceptions of suspense, danger, and edge-of-the-seat storytelling. It is distinct from other AFI lists that rank overall artistry or cultural impact, concentrating instead on the immediate experience of being thrilled by a film.

Selection process and criteria

AFI assembled a selection process drawing on a national panel of film artists, critics, historians and industry professionals to nominate and vote on candidates.
