Julián Castro (born September 16, 1974) is an American public official and politician. He rose to national prominence through local and federal offices and as a 2020 presidential candidate. For an overview of his public profile see Julián Castro.
Early life and education
Castro was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. He attended Stanford University and later earned a law degree from Harvard Law School. His upbringing in a working-class family and his education helped shape his interest in urban policy, education and immigrant rights.
Political career and offices
Castro’s elective career began in San Antonio city government. He served on the city council before being elected mayor in 2009. He completed three terms as mayor, focusing on economic development and local services.
