Graziano Pellè (born 15 July 1985 in San Cesario di Lecce) is an Italian professional footballer who has played as a centre-forward in several top leagues. Trained in the youth system of U.S. Lecce, he developed into a tall, physical striker known for aerial ability, hold-up play and finishing. His career has taken him from Italy’s lower divisions to the Netherlands and England, and he has also been capped by the Italy national team.

Club career — early years and Italy

Pellè began his senior career at Lecce and spent time on loan to gain experience with clubs such as Crotone and early professional spells at Calcio Catania and Cesena. These moves helped him adapt to different tactical systems and build the physical presence that later defined his role. He also had a stint with U.C. Sampdoria and a period registered with Parma, contributing primarily as a target man in attack.

Success abroad and move to England

Pellè's profile rose after moving to the Netherlands, where he played for Feyenoord and notably for AZ Alkmaar, winning the Eredivisie with AZ in 2009. His performances in the Dutch league led to interest from other European clubs and eventually a transfer to English football with Southampton. While in the Premier League he earned recognition, including being named Premier League Player of the Month in September 2014.

Playing style and role

Pellè is typically deployed as a central striker. He is valued for aerial duels, ability to hold up play under pressure and for finishing chances inside the penalty area. Coaches have used him as a focal point for crossing attacks and as a partner in two-striker systems where his physical traits complement quicker or more mobile forwards. Supporters and analysts often describe him as a traditional centre-forward rather than a wide or playmaking attacker.

International career and recognition

Selected for the Italian national team, Pellè represented his country in international competitions and qualifiers. He brought to the national side the same physical presence and goal-orientation he showed at club level. While not the most capped striker in Italy’s history, his contributions at key moments earned him a place in squads for major tournaments.
