Eva was born in the rural town of Los Toldos and spent part of her youth in Buenos Aires, where she pursued work as a radio and film actress. Her early career in entertainment brought her public visibility and helped her develop the communication skills and personal charisma that later shaped her political persona. She met Juan Perón in the 1940s and married him shortly before he became president.

Political rise and public roles

As first lady, Eva Perón took on an unusually active role for the position. She cultivated direct ties with organized labor and the urban poor, becoming a leading advocate for social welfare programs. She helped found organizations aimed at providing medical care, housing, and pensions for disadvantaged Argentines, and she was centrally involved in efforts that led to the law granting women the right to vote in 1947.
