Ben Roy Mottelson — Nobel Prize–winning nuclear physicist

Career and research

Mottelson worked for decades at the Niels Bohr Institute in Copenhagen and collaborated closely with Aage Bohr. Their joint research developed theoretical descriptions that linked the motion of individual protons and neutrons to collective, deformed shapes of the nucleus. This approach helped explain patterns observed in nuclear spectra and electromagnetic transitions.
