Layout and key features

Designed by noted circuit architect Hermann Tilke, the track follows a flowing configuration with a mix of long straights and tight technical sections. The full lap is approximately 5.5 kilometres with around 20–22 turns, depending on configuration. Distinctive elements include a waterfront marina area, a pit and paddock complex integrated with grandstands, and a luxury hotel that straddles part of the circuit, allowing guestrooms to overlook the track.

History and development

Yas Marina was built as part of a wider plan to develop Yas Island as an entertainment and leisure destination. It became the second Formula One venue in the Middle East after the circuit in Bahrain. The first Abu Dhabi Grand Prix took place shortly after the circuit's completion and the track was quickly marketed as a modern, high-technology facility capable of staging night or twilight races by using powerful floodlighting and careful scheduling.

Events and uses

Beyond Formula One, the circuit has hosted a variety of racing series and public events. It has been used for GT and touring-car races, motorcycle testing, and has served as the season opener for the Australian V8 Supercars with the Yas V8 400 in February 2010. The venue also supports corporate track days, driving schools and non-competitive motoring experiences that capitalise on its modern facilities and convenient location.
