Troye Sivan Mellet (born 5 June 1995), known professionally as Troye Sivan, is a South African-born Australian actor, YouTuber and singer-songwriter.
Acting
Early in his career he appeared in feature films, including the role of the young James Howlett in the 2009 film X-Men Origins: Wolverine. He later starred as the lead in the movie Spud, part of a three-film trilogy.
Online presence
Sivan publishes regular material on his YouTube channel and has used the platform to discuss personal subjects. On 7 August 2013 he uploaded a video titled "Coming Out" that publicly stated he was gay and which resonated with many young LGBTQ people around the world.
Music
His first major-label extended play, TRXYE, was released on 15 August 2014 and reached the top five of the Billboard 200. The EP's lead single, "Happy Little Pill", became a top‑10 hit in Australia. He followed with the EP Wild (4 September 2015), his debut studio album Blue Neighbourhood (4 December 2015), and later the single "My My My!" (10 January 2018), the first release from his second album Bloom (31 August 2018).
Awards and recognition
His collaborative YouTube clip "The 'Boyfriend' Tag", made with fellow creator Tyler Oakley, won a Teen Choice Award in 2014 for Choice Web Collaboration; that clip is often cited among his early mainstream recognitions as a video. In the same year Time included him on a list of influential young people. Sivan is also of Jewish heritage.
Personal note
Sivan has spoken openly about his sexuality and experiences in interviews and online, and his coming-out video remains one of the notable moments of his public life.
